Good thing I got there at noon, or else I wouldn't have got home till 9. Haha! It was nice to meet you and your wife Steve. Thanks for the pizza and wheels.

I think you racked up about 10 years of Karma right there. You're my new best friend. But honestly, it restores your faith in humanity when people go out of their way to help others for free. Thanks again Eric, that really meant a lot to me that you'd even offer in the first place, then stick it out till it was done. Now you see why this build is taking so long. I'm a slow-poke.

So, today's updates (made possible by Eric's generous time and help)

- New rear main seal (didn't need it, but since I was in there I figured it couldn't hurt to replace it)
- New Marlin tranny output seal
- New clutch and flywheel (didn't really need it either, but when I'm already there I always try to replace it anyway)
- swapped in a w-56 with 150k. I have no clue if it's good or not, but the PO swears it has zero issues. We noticed RTV in between each piece, so I imagine it's been rebuilt or worked on at some time. THe PO had a turbo on his motor, so this tranny could be totally shot. But we'll have to see. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Now I have to cut off the old brackets to hold the t-case mount since the w56 is about 6" longer than my l40. Then I'll make some new ones. Then I'll be really close. Honestly, I was really dreading putting this tranny in, but when Eric showed up and just rolled up his sleeves and got to work, it went by pretty quick. It's such a relief to have itdone. And now I'm not intimidated by removing the tranny if I have to.

What color was the rtv? If I remember right toyota(factory and dealership) use orange silicone to seal trannys and t-cases so it could be stock, or at least worked on at the dealer...

Plus manual trannys are really easy to rebuild, so it would have been hard to mess it up. Also if it was messed up it would have most likely not worked right away, so if it looks like its been used since the rtv was put there then it was probibally put together right. I have seen manual trannys put together wrong at my work, and they never leave the lift. They just get torn apart and redone right away cuz one or more gears dont work.

Yeah, I've looked into gotpropane. Maybe someday, but for now I just want it driving. There's nothing wrong with my fuel system as is, so I'm going to keep it. I'll just dial in my carb to work at all angles and I should be ok.

Are you pretty good at tuning carbs?

hah, if you saw it in person you'd know it was not good looking at all (nor was it good performing). It had so much ghetto-fab on it that I was doing it a favor. If it were a super clean 1st gen, I'd be more worried, but it wasn't. But you're right, I'm scared to wheel my Taco hard. I did constrictor (minus wayne's world and the nest) in the taco once, and I vowed I would never do it again in that vehicle. It's my DD, so it's gotta stay purdy. I may sas the taco though, we'll see.

Yes, it will definitely be ready in time for the LROR show n shine in Oct. I knew they were planning something, but I didn't know they picked a month. Do you have any more info on it?

Sounds like you need a new wife and or friends if no one is riding with you that or a stick of deodorant.

I don't need a new wife, I just need a rig that my wife can drive along with me. I can't believe she's been such a good sport about me turning the garage into a disaster, with 3 truck beds in the backyard, axles, sliders, tires, all sorts of crap. She's such a good sport. The good news is that the pile of parts is slowly getting smaller.

I do need new friends though :)
