Steve's '94 Toyota x-cab mild build

I haven't been able to find it at autozone. It's only about $5.50 a can, and it's definitely worth it to me. But if anyone has found it cheaper somewhere else, let me know.

i just looked at your post and it's different. i've used the duplicolor too but i think the stuff i really love is the rustoleum self-etching. they both work really well

let me know what you go with for front length shackles. I am using 5in but I think i want to go with 4" for a better pinion angle.

where do you get rustoleum self-etching primer? I love all things rustoleum (especially the painter's-touch series), so I'm really intrigued.

they have it at the zone, i love it but it is like $6 or something. the reason that frustrates me is that walmart has a bunch of other rustoleum paints in the bigger cans for cheaper but they don't carry that primer :squint:

I'm running 4.5" shackles, and they're pretty angled -probably more than I'd like, a little past 45 deg. but when I install bump stops I'll only have 2-3" of up travel, so I should be ok, right? What's bad about having a pretty good angle besides the axle "walking" forward? I do like that the angle keeps the front end a bit lower than if it were just off from being completely hotizontal. Probably 2 inches lower! -and my pinion angle is great!

If your shackle angle tyler is to steep it will not allow the shackle to move as smooth as it should because it has to pull the shackle down and forward instead of just forward, but i saw your shackle angles at SWCF and they dont look bad enough that i would move the hanger forward

I think so, as long as your shackle isn't hitting your frame or body mount and bottoming out.

You could move your hanger forward to fix your angle, but you'd get more lift.

For the primers at Walmart (at least the one in Riverton), you have to go to the auto section, not the paint section. The same area you would find car soap, etc. My Walmart has several different types of the rustoleum primers there.

i've looked there as well but i'll check again. thanks for the tip

I'd prefer to have more uptravel, but if you're not going to baja it on bumpy roads you should be fine. Even if it hits the bumpstops it's not the end of the world.

Well, I still can't get a hold of Front range offroad. I'm starting to get a little worried that I won't have my parts in time for HITR.

thats what bumpstops are for so you are hitting your stops not your engine or frame

partially, yes. But they're not meant to be hit every 5 seconds because you don't have enough uptravel.

They're also used to save your springs and keep them from getting destroyed by running then negative.

I'm trying to stay positive. Didn't get as much done as I wanted tonight, but progress is progress.

I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get the middle out of these shackle holes. The plasma doesn't fit in there too well, so I'm having a hard time removing the material in between the frame rails.

So tomorrow I can hopefully get my shackle mounts done, and get the shackles hung. I think I want to french the front hanger, and go with a 4" shackle, similar to rot box. We'll see how much work that takes. I'm thinking french the front hanger about an inch. I just hope that doesn't create clearance issues with the tie rod/drag link and the frame.
