Oh, and Art Carr makes some pretty sweet converters. Dunno about cost though....you could talk to Brad Lovell about 'em, he's a dealer now.
Thanks,

I have PMed him about the shifter and will also about the converter.

Did you ask the tranny place about converters? They may have an stock app with a higher stall. They are also the place to get your flexplate. There is a place on west temple and about 1400 south that builds/rebuilds converters exclusively.

i bought a furnace brazeed converter from Axiom for like 75 bucks.. they should be able to get you one with a high(er) stall than stock, but how high i dont know... might only be 2000 rpms when stock is 1800.. just call and see..

i have always been impressed with Art Carr stuff, i bought an oil pan from Factory tubular (bought for 75 bucks :greg: ) right before they went under... and a shifter direct from AC...

i dont know if its a big deal or not, but i took some 220 grit sand paper and lightly sanded a cross hatch pattern in the steel plates (similar for a cylinder hone, but flat) it was a very light pattern, i heard it helps eliminate slip in the fibers.. too deep of pattern and your just going to wear out your fibers pre-maturely.... (sp?)

also, soak your fiber plates in clean ATF for a few hours prior to install, i even got side tracked on a different project and left the reverse fibers in for like 2 days... i hear soaking them helps a lot..

i cleaned my case and clutch packs and every possible part with carb cleaner, then blew it out with air... remember, just like a motor, the lint *can* block the oil passages since they are so small, but its doubtfull. i blew them out just to be safe.

you could also take your case to a tranny shop, they should be able to hot dip your case and get it extremely clean, but i found that the tranny shops around me only fired up the tank about once every 2 weeks.. so if you want to wait, its a good option... but probably not needed...

the vaseline is for your seals, be very gentile when installing them around the pistons... i bent the tip of a flat screw driver ever so slightly and it helped to work the seals around... use PLENTY of vaseline.. and remember to "twist" the piston when installing it..

i bought a few books from Barnes and noble on the subject, once i tore it open i figured out how it all worked, but the books have a few usefull tips like the ones i have given..

sorry if you already knew the things i tried to explain, i am just trying to pass on my little bit of auto knowledge, i hope it helps ;)

the main thing, TAKE YOUR TIME.. it took me about a week to do it, working on it after work..

also what kind of cooler are you going to use? i hear the Setrabs are amazing, but they are expensive... i bought a cheapo B&M rated for 26000 lbs GVW and it sucked. i would reccomend against those.

hope this helps

Yes I asked about the TC and they said $65.00 but they had to order it.

Maybe I'll just run the one that came with the tranny to see how it does first.

Man... I have gone through both sets of seals trying to get these in and I keep shaving just a hair off of the seals. Both the inner and outer  I will get some more seals and try to bend the screw driver.

See what I found...

pps,,, what about a shift kit? Worth it?

They're cheap, like around $100 if I remember. And install is easy, I have done a couple from under the vehicle. They definatley make a tranny have a strong feel to it. I don't think it's needed for your application, but if you want it to kick you in the pants when it shifts, go for it.

....they reduce heat, too. (keep the clutches from slipping as much between shifts)

$100 is way too much I'm thinking. IIRC, mine was ~$30. All it consists of is a couple springs, check balls, and I think a new sheetmetal plate that goes between the housing and valvebody.
