DAMNIT!!!! The car should be running, but won't fire.... just cranks over. It will fire up with a little squirt of starting fluid, but that's it. So I have spark, but no fuel. The day before yesterday I connected the fuel pump to power, with over a 1/2 tank of gas in the tank. Gas Tanks Inc. says running the pump dry will destroy it, so I made sure it had plenty of fuel. The first time I powered up the pump, it ran for about 10 seconds filling and priming the fuel lines and rails. Then as I continued the wiring, I ran the pump several more times. On the 4th or 5th cycle running the pump, it started making some really odd squealing sounds, like metal to metal noises. After that, the pump will run non stop... apparently not holding prime.

I do not have a way to check fuel pressure at the rail, but based on what's going on and the way it's been acting, the brand new pump from Gas Tanks Inc is junk. And I can't find one locally, the only option is to order one from Summit Racing, which won't ship out for over a week!!

Here's how the car looks now.... 🥺

I will say that when it fired up on starting fluid, it sounded AMAZING!! I mean, loud, mean and healthy! I can't want to hear it running now!

When I bought my Tanks Inc tank and pump for my Grand Prix's EFI conversion, I had a similar problem. When I first went to fire it up, the pump made noise but only a very small amount of fuel dribbled out of the line.

(Yes, this is a photo of my old stock tank which I just dropped before installing the new Tanks one. However, I don't have any photos of the shiny new tank sitting on the ground with the pump out--I was too upset at that time to take any. Nevertheless, I post this photo here now as a show of solidarity and support for you.)

I called Tanks, and they sent me a replacement pump. Once I swapped that one in, the fuel system has worked perfectly ever since.

Hang in there.

I emailed them already, they claim the noises are from low voltage. I replaced the battery and it still doesn't work correctly, the pump just runs and runs.

Hopefully they get back to me and replace the pump. I'm bummed.... really wanted to see it running this weekend. I have to go back out of town for work on Monday and spend 8 days away from home, so it will be awhile before I can get it going.

Man that is frustrating.

You have no idea.... I was thinking something was wrong with the engine or the wiring.... or the sensors.... or the grounds.... or the power supply to the ECU.... or.... or.... stressing out. I double and triple checked all kinds of things, called customer service for the company that made the harness and tuned the computer with no real luck. Took a bath in gas when I dropped the tank, too.

Time for a couple beers and a shower. Come back in 8 days with a fresh pump and a more relaxed brain.

I actually got it out of the shop this evening, driving around the neighborhood. I absolutely LOVE the Summit Racing 4L60E in the car, it shifts firm and quick. The Boss Hog stall convertor isn't too much, just about right.

The car drives well, it seems to still need engine tuning but driving it was a huge relief... until a power steering hose blew off! One of the fittings wasn't tight enough apparently. I'll probably have one made at NAPA and see if that will work.

I bolted the hood back in place, noticed the alternator doesn't seem to be charging (its new) which is odd.
