So here is the before pic

And after.....I moved the front axle 5" forward. This give me good clearance on the firewall, the axle clears the motor plenty, and it gives me a nice approach angle. My wheelbase is about 128" now.

Now remember......Im doing this with little to no money so I have to get creative sometimes.

I didnt want to buy new link material and tube adapters for the heims....but, I moved the axle forward so the links need to be longer now.

I looked thru my metal pile and I had some 2" tube. It has a id of 1.75" which what my upper links are. They are 1/4 wall.

So I chopped my links in half, and slid them inside the 2" tube. I cut a scrap piece of 1.75 tube to fill the gap and welded them all together.

I forgot to get a pic of the filler piece but its in there. So now my uppers are essentially 3/8" wall. Should hold I would think.

And I got the uppers installed

Get any longer you can paint it yellow and call it the short bus!

That thought has crossed my mind

I would be happy to be picked up every morning in this short bus! Maybe it would make up for my childhood

So, I guess I need to make a trip up to your house so I can help repaint the links.:) I think your idea for your upper links is a cool one and I am unsure if they will hold up or not. 3/8" is a lot for just some uppers but, I really don't think it is too over kill on your axles with your tire choice. That is a lot of weight and traction you have. I think I would try and keep the windshield but, I would also look for an easy way to remove it quickly. Gotta keep the little woman and your boy happy. And, it sure would be a shame to waste another windshield in a roll over. I really wish I could help, I know that I am not much help but, I do enjoy huffing paint.;)

You can come huff paint at my place anytime!
Fold down windshield, with removeable hinge pins?

Make it easy to take off before crazy obstacles.

That sounds like a good idea but what are the chances I would ever pull it off?

I would have bet my last 5 dollars that I wasnt going to roll on the nest.....you just never know.

Fold down would be the best bet. Unless I just do the lexan panels in the cage.

I just dunno

Have it where its protected (for the most part) when its in the folded down position.

Thanks!

Is it giving you any motivation for your buggy?

I have the motivation, just not the cash.
Wife says NOTHING goes on credit.
I actually work on it all the time. I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and need to update my build thread.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help with your scout rebuild rebuild.
