TR Beadlocks--on the street---yes or no?

Im not trying to start any kind of debate here, but if an inspector passes a vehicle with beadlocks or anything else thats not up to par, he has broken the law and is facing fines and loosing his licence. If the inspector passes a car with bad brakes for instance and the car gets into a wreck, and UHP decides it was due to the brakes then it becomes a real problem for the inspector. Im not trying to split hairs here. I believe that some of the items on our inspections are unreasonable, but I dont make the laws, (or rules)

Your reading into this all wrong. I'm not saying it is LEGAL to pass them... I'm just saying it is NOT illegal to run them. Catch 22 of sorts. The UHP (DPS) was charged with the task of interpreting Utah's actual laws and statutes into a dumbed down inspection manual, no offense. It is what it is. OK. So I now have the entire set of wheels, and was going to mount them up this weekend.

35" MTR's are the tires. Should I put airsoft BB's in the tire to balance, or should I take it to a jeep friendly shop and have them put weights on.

If airsoft, any idea how to figure out how many? Is it one of those crazy science things where it doesn't really matter because the extra will just evenly distribute due to some funny force vector thing and the galaxy will align?

Should I paint the rings black so they don't stand out, or just run the silver aluminum rings as is?

I'd paint the rings, but I like my rims MURDERED, yo.

Shop should be able to handle 35's.

did a little research and 8oz bb's is whats recomended. I still prefer traditional weights though. I bet that Big O on highland and like 30th would do it, they've always been beadlock friendly to me.

I think I will murder out the rings. It'll look cooler and won't draw quite as much attention.

I put 12oz of airsoft bbs in my 38.5 SXs on H1s and they drive smooth as I could ask for, no vibration at all! That number came from the innovative balancing website.

He did not notice the bolts were bottoming out on the rim. The combo of the force of the bolts pushing out and the 30 psi of air, caused the inner ring weld to fail!! In a big way!! Blow the inner/outer ring clean off
Almost took a pinky finger with it, as well as breaking his kneecap, and a few other injuries! Could have been MUCH worse!!

Gonna check mine!! Swappers have a thick bead and I had to put longer bolts in.:-\

I need to measure for bolts...is there a common size bolt that most people are running for an MTR tire on beadlocks?

Yeah, it had to be a crappy weld to begin with.

Mine could be a 1/2" longer before they touched something. Though I guess with aluminum wheels it might be easy to keep driving them in, especially if using an air tool.

Stock jeep rims, machined and locked....the inner ring is almost 3/4" and is flush to the rim....no gap between the back of the inner ring and rim....no way to "see" if the bottom out....Oh and steel zerts in alluminum rings don't strip very easy.
Knowing what wheels he has used for YEARS, I would bet against bad welds!! Probably the most trusted company in the biz....around loooooong before TR and impact....

That's what I put in my 35" BFG Mudders, and it made things ten times worse. I'll never put BBs in my tires again, a complete waste of time. My two cents...

...UHP hit me for mudflaps (i know I have put this off for so long I deserve this), and bead locks I have the same mentioned in here, now I have ran these for over 2.5 years now, never been hassled by UHP ever, passed them on Bangerter, parked next to them at lights etc. this one pulled me over for no front plate but wrote me up for bead locks (41-6a-1601) and mudflaps (41-6a-1633)...

Do you plan to fight it?

41-6a-1601 says NOTHING about beadlocks, rather its a blanket law:

(1) (a) A person may not operate or move and an owner may not cause or knowingly permit to be operated or moved on a highway a vehicle or combination of vehicles which:
(i) is in an unsafe condition that may endanger any person;

He wrote you a ticket based on his assumption that the beadlocks are unsafe, likely because the authors of the safety inspection manual (also the UHP) decided to call them unsafe. I would take your case to a judge and see what they have to say, might be fruitless as it would take a judge with some knowledge of automobiles and wheel design to make a call away from the norm.
