All pointers are welcome.

I applied back in May and had forgotten I had even applied, until the phone call.

hey Dan or Greg, or any UP employee.

what are the benifits like?
how far do you have to travel?
how long do you normaly spend away from home?(what is the longest, what is the norm?)
I'm not a UP employee, nor have I been one in the SLC area, so I can't answer most of your questions. I'll tell you this, the benefits are tops, and the retirement is something to look forward to. You'll no longer pay into social security, nor will you ever collect it. I haven't paid into social security in 7 years now. Also my wife will never collect social security. She'll collect RR retirement just like me. :D
HTH,
Dan.
PS You can also call me if you want. Number is in above post.

ok...it is going on a month since I applied last..I view this as a good thing right? That means I was not immediately dismissed for something like my overly generous portion of man meat....or something like that

watch my nex tpost will be a miserable rejection.... :ugh:

Quick question that maybe you all can answer. I am going to be separating from the military in two months and I want to send in my application but I am in Japan(aka hell) until the time that I do separate. Should I wait incase they call me before I am in the states or is there a section for availability date. Thanks in advance
Andrew

BTT once again.

Anticipated openings means they're gearing up for Summer hiring blitz.

It's a good job folks.

Okay, so I don't work there, but it's still a good job.

Dan.

Any guess what kind of $$$$ the Regional track laborer positions makes???

About $18/hr. A Track Laborer is the bottom of the barrel, it only goes up from there. I make a few bucks more than a laborer by driving a truck.

If you can get on a system gang (the posibility of working on the entire UP track) you are paid an additional $1600/mo. BEYOND your salary, for traveling expenses. There's ALOT of system work in SLC right now due to a new intermodal yard that they're building just south of the airport. I believe it will be under construction for 2 yrs, so there's plenty of system jobs in that area.
