I got banned from JK-Forum a while back, so I can't look at it either. If you don't have a username on there it usually takes a week for them to approve a new one for you.

Well things have gotten a little better on the site it seems and I made a new account. I'll never post but it's nice to be able to read stuff you can't otherwise without an account.

My buddy sent the following info about the last time he ran the Rubicon with Goose.

Its beautiful dude. I had no idea how pretty it would be. We camped at the edge of a Cirque (of sorts) overlooking a cliff. It was a mile or so before the big popular lake where everyone camps so it was just us. We got robbed blind by black bears. Paw prints all over our rigs. It was pretty cool as my son and I were just sleeping under the stars. Never heard a peep. Watch out for the Friday Saturday thing. It turns into a bit of a Jeep Safari on the weekends. Sounds like you will be out of there mostly by Saturday morning which will be good—the traffic got crazy. There were times we would pull off to the side and wait for 30-40 rigs go by. My guess is you will have a little less crowd in September than we did in June.

I also found this info for those who will not have a street-legal rig:

As a non California resident planning to use a non street legal off highway vehicle you will need to aquire a non-resident permit. Mail or call 916-324-4442 for info.

I was on expedition portal and saw this video of an Earthroamer on the Rubicon. This is one of the best (although still not great) videos I've seen of big sluice. They must have skipped Cadillac Hill, since there's no video of it.

You can print your fire permit from this link http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5346076.pdf

fill it out and its good for all year. You only need to have one in your group but it never hurts to have more.

Here's the link to the fire permit. I would assume that anyone using a stove would need their own, but I'm not sure. Read the regulations, print out your permit, then sign it.

That looks pretty familiar. :cody:

how are everyone's rigs coming along? Mine at least drives on the road now. I have some things to finish before this trip, but it'll be ready. This trip is 8 weeks away.

My son leaned over to me while sitting around the lantern on the Relic Run last weekend and said, "Dad, we need to do the Rubicon." Got room?

I did half of it back in '97, 2nd voyage of the original Freak. It's been on my list for years to do the whole thing. The only thing I need to do to the jeep is mount the spare and figure out how many people will be in the jeep. We'd be trailering the Green out there.

Man, sounds like this should be a sweet trip. I am not sure about my truck making it though. If I had a dedicated DD I would totally join, but as is, I do not.

Yup, we've still got room. I'll put you on the "committed" list unless you tell me otherwise. Glad you can make it!

Are you going to limit the number of rigs you're allowing? Will you put me "on the fence"? I'm hoping by then, I'll have my axle swaps done and lift. If so, I'll be locked front and rear, 33's, 4" of lift, sliders, HD crossmember and t-case skid. Maybe more.

Cool, what do you drive? The group is getting quite big, so I'm going to cap it pretty soon.

2000 WJ. It's on 33's now and stock axles with 2" of lift.

I've got a JK rubicon rear axle just about ready to go in with the stock e-locker and 4.88 gears. I've also got a dana 44 axle I'm building for the front with matching 4.88 gears and a detroit locker. That's the one I'm wondering if I can have done in time. It's not even completely torn down yet. Fortunately, I do have most of the parts I'll need ready to go.

I've also got a 4" lift kit ready to go in when I swap the axles.

I think my experience that you’d be most interested in is in Moab. Mostly the usual trails; Poison Spider, Cliffhanger, Steel Bender, Hell’s Revenge, plus many of the easier, scenic trails. I’ve led trails in Moab for the past 3 or 4 fall flings for NAXJA.
My only run with RME so far was Rattlesnake a couple months ago. I was on 32’s at the time and didn’t have the sliders done yet, so we took it easy and turned around at Wayne’s World.
I’ve also run Mineral Basin, but to be honest, it wasn’t too hard the day we went up.
I rode passenger on the Rubicon a couple years ago, and while that doesn’t give me driving experience, I have an idea of what to expect and am confident that me and the WJ will do just fine. Assuming it’s ready by then, of course. :D

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to make the shake down runs. The jeep will either be down, or I'll be working on the axles most weekends.
