Greg's motorcycle thread got me thinking about this route. I didn't want to hijack his thread, so I started my own. Who would be interested in doing this in their vehicles? I don't have enough vacation time to do the whole thing in one shot, but I think it'd be great to split it up into about 4-5 pieces and do several runs.

Here's the info:

Mexican Hat to Garden City, almost all off road. http://www.utbdr.com/UTBDR-Route-Map

Way interested, but my October is already half-full with the Classic 4Runners Moab trip.

I don't have the vacation left to do it in one go this year either, but that doesn't mean we couldn't start planning for next year. I think driving the whole thing would be great, especially if we took time out along the way to run harder trails or do hikes and such.

I'm thinking a stock 4x4 or tow rig could make this easily. The only issues would be the sandy spots. With a pull-pal and a winch we should be well-equipped.

This trip really has me excited since I am finding that I'm more interested in the traveling than the obstacles.

I don't think you guys would have near the problems motorcycle guys have, especially if you aired down.... but being prepared is wise.

Steve, if you put together a group and want to preview the UTBDR DVD, I have a copy. I'd be willing to send it up, as long as you send it back when you're done.

Thanks for the offer Greg. I can't really think about this trip until I've got the Rubicon behind me, so I'll probably hit you up towards the end of September.

I'd be interested, its basically a 'Utah Inverse' (North-South Border to Border, UT/AZ to UT/ID) but rather than starting in St George and ending near 3 corners UT/ID/NV, you stay on the eastern side of the state. We covered much of the same ground on our Utah Converse trip (Four Corners - UT/CO/AZ/NM to Three Corners - UT/NV/ID), I think it could be done in a 4 day, 3 night trip. We did a much longer distance on the Utah Converse (formally known as the Utah Cruiser Expedition II, UCE I was a west to east border to border Utah crossing which was later dubbed the Utah Traverse, see ExpUt for lots of trip reports and data on that one) in 5 days, 4 nights and that included travel time to 4 corners and back from Idaho, both of which are near identical if not a bit further than the UTBDR routing. Come to think of it I've done most of their trip just in two different trips, I think it would be a riot to connect in a single. I'll be watching for a date.
