You guys that drive trucks dont wanna live where i live.... They pulled me over for having clear tail lenses on my duramax, and a million other things that people wouldnt even believe! (Like a cop saying he saw the 2" crack in my windshield going 65 in opposite directions! suspicious he walked around my truck before coming to harrass me!) They pull everyone over for anything they can, but I also think its cuz the basin is 90% trucks and lots of money to hop them up. I got pulled over last night for the first time in the jeep, left my brights on. He walked up asked to see my license, told me what was up, said I didnt look like id been drinking and sent me on my way, might just be lucky that it was a holiday weekend and they were chasin DUI's

I used to use my wheeler as my DD but I soon learned from a cop that if you drive in a respectful manner they wont bug you as much. This being said, being respectful and

not being an aggressive driver goes along way. I use a car now to commute in and every time I see a truck or SUV pulled over on I-15 the person driving almost always looks

angry or feels maybe in some way they are above the law and should not have been pulled over. I feel there are a few things you can do if you are not totally legal. Some of

the things I learned were from calling UHP and asking them what I could do to be a better driver on the freeway. It was cool because they explained how the pick out

speeders and how they choose who is in violation and who is not. I would suggest a phone call and it may help you out if this topic makes your blood boil. As far as

inspections go, I have duct taped mud flaps on and got my sticker then immediately ripped them off and saved them for the next year. I think that if you tick off the cop that

pulls you over then he may become stupid about tires and the like but seriously, drive around and look at the SUVs and trucks at car dealerships and that all have oversize

tires that stick out. Watts auto in A.F. have a good chunk of them.

Not often wrong. Never quite right.

Those wheels are what is wrong with that truck. If we had any proper police officers on this board they'd go over and cite that truck owner right now for Driving Ugly Crap.

There's a law against that, right?

Too much road construction around here for them not to enforce the tire size/mud flap laws. Like many people on this site, I've been on both sides. Pulled over and given a fix-it ticket in my XJ by Highway Patrol. He was on an overpass and came after me when I went by. He was straight up about it, due to construction in the area they were getting complaints about rock chips and were aggressively looking for and ticketing trucks and SUVs that didn't have the required fenders or mud flaps. A couple months later I was able to talk my way out of a ticket and into a warning after one of my mud flaps was torn off wheeling the weekend before. Cop was insistent I didn't have mud flaps, but after politely asking him to double check a few times he finally looked and realized I was only missing one and the one that had been torn off was in my back seat. On the other side of the coin, my wife and I each average about one new windshield a year. I would imagine that if mud flap/fender/tire width laws were not enforced we'd go through even more.

I don't want to jinx myself by saying I have never been pulled over for flaps/flares but it's true, I daily drove the black ZJ for almost 12 years and never had an issue even though it didn't have any type of mud flaps or flares, but I also drove as respectfully as possible and you can't exactly speed very much in a brick on wheels. My brother says having veteran plates helps as well. I have removable flaps on the tan ZJ and like having them, takes all of 40 seconds or so to pull the pin on each side and throw them in the back.

In case anyone wasn't aware, the UHP encourages us to report those in violation of the flap/flare law and gross polluters as well as other obvious violations, it will make the roads safer for everyone.

Drive around and look at the SUVs and trucks at car dealerships and that all have oversize
tires that stick out.

I was getting my oil changed at the WVC Jeep dealer a couple weeks ago on a promo and while they were working I walked the lot. They have THIS rig on the lot and I was looking at the rear bumper when a salesman walked up. We started to chat and I told him I had a JK already and he asked what I thought about this built one. I told him it was ridiculous that they had picked these mods for it and that the second it pulled off the lot it ought stopped and cited and that the dealership ought to be responsible for the fines. He was surprised that I'd say that and then claimed ignorance about the mods being super illegal. Whether he actually was ignorant about them I still don't know but I doubt he cares either way.

Is my rig legal? Technically no. I put a 2.5" lift on it (anything non stock height is required to have mud flaps that cover to the axle) and don't have flaps but I am running stock size tires (255/75/17). Compared to the buggies that people are driving on the road my rig looks stock which is how I want it. I anticipate putting on flaps when these tires wear out and I upsize but I don't see that as being a negative.

If I'm not mistaken those are metalcloak fender flares and are only a problem in ALL of Utah or denver city limits as far as I know. Every where else no one cares and thus most are ignorant to Utah's special needs laws.

As far as the clear taillight lenses go, did you have the required red reflectors?
Technically ALL after market lenses are illegal according to UT code.

Also your 40" OFFROAD led light bar is not legal to be driving around with. That drives me nuts being blinded by the flood lights

That's not true, otherwise every Tacoma from 2009+ from the factory would be illegal. They all have clear lenses with red LED lights.

I know the LED bars aren't legal to have lit up on-road... Which is why I don't ever turn it on on the roads. And technically it's a 50" and a 20" ;) but Utah doesn't require the caps over the lights like some states do, and they limit the number of allowed DOT approved lights illuminated at 4 max, so two headlights and two fogs.

I dont ever turn on my offroad lights on the street. I agree with you, it's ridiculous when other people do. I literally feel that if I were to turn on my lights on the road then I would cause a pile up and the school bus full of junior varsity high school football team would crash off the side of the bridge and drown because we all know football players can't swim...

Anything built from factory is clear, but aftermarket added parts are another story. Any vehicle built without seat belts doesnt have to have one, if it was built with blue tint headlights from factory its in the clear add blue lights and its illegal.
