I used it for a while in our old condo it is very very fast but it has it's down falls you cant use anytype of virus protection like Nortons or anything you have to use "their" special virus stuff because if you use anything else it see's it as a threat and messes crap up.You can't use peer to peer site's like limewire ETC. They block the ports for those so you get speeds of 6kb or less on those sites. But other than that it was a very fast connection i was getting 14meg upload and about 17 down. But i went back to comcastI seen a sign the other day saying it was coming? or already here?
Anyone using it?
Should I drop comcast if I can get it?

...Xmission...
yeah I know...Meat_ said:
Also are they not supported by Xmission?
Government crapehh?
Utopia was paid for and is owned by your town, the ISP's rent bandwidth and sell you service.
Oh, and I hate you.
Government crap
But 10 Mbps is better then the stupid comcast I got, As well as the idiot that installed my cable (yeah its messed up) AND bummed a smoke off me.
not really...total bandwidth allowed per resident is 100mb but only 10-15mb is allowed for internet. The other bandwidth is for tv and phone (wether you use those services or not). Also, the business is not true either. It's a break down as well, we have Utopia at my offices and they only allow 30mb for internet. We have another couple QMOE lines thats 50mb each that smoke the Utopia stuff. We only have Utopia as an additional redundancy. Also, for businesses it's pretty expensive, I think we are paying around $1300 a month for our Utopia connection.Several ISP's offer 30Mb/30Mb... Utopia it's self offers 100Mb to residential and 1Gb to business.
Most have a limit, then you pay by the Gb after that for like another 5Gb, then it becomes unlimited.

Yeah I know but I just thought I would Inquire, but I did re-read the sign posted down the road and it pretty much says under construction. I will call Utopia in a few days just out of curiosity to see when/if its gonna be available at my home.FWIW, you'd be better off calling Utopia directly to find out if it's available or any kind of status. The ISPs won't usually know the details, just if it's available or not.

Actually no, the ISP's are the limiting factor... as far as the network is concerned you get 100Mb to your house.
