I seen a sign the other day saying it was coming? or already here?

Anyone using it?

Should I drop comcast if I can get it?

I used it for a while in our old condo it is very very fast but it has it's down falls you cant use anytype of virus protection like Nortons or anything you have to use "their" special virus stuff because if you use anything else it see's it as a threat and messes crap up.You can't use peer to peer site's like limewire ETC. They block the ports for those so you get speeds of 6kb or less on those sites. But other than that it was a very fast connection i was getting 14meg upload and about 17 down. But i went back to comcast:cool:

You need to pick the right provider on it, if you run it into a router you can do whatever you want behind the router... Limewire sucks, and if they block BT ports... use different ports :greg:

Those are all restrictions of the ISP. Utopia is just a pipe, it has nothing else to do with services, etc. Utopia is much like DSL, you have to ge the serivce and then you have to get an ISP. Most ISPs that offer Utopia will be able to do it as an all-in-one package. I'd go with Xmission simply because they have said they do not block any ports or services. You are limited to 100GB of bandwidth during weekdays (but 99% of people won't hit that limit).

Oh, and like Meat said, not only yes, but Hell Yes! I'd drop comcast for just about anything besides dial-up.

ehh?

Utopia was paid for and is owned by your town, the ISP's rent bandwidth and sell you service.
Government crap
But 10 Mbps is better then the stupid comcast I got, As well as the idiot that installed my cable (yeah its messed up) AND bummed a smoke off me. :ugh:

Several ISP's offer 30Mb/30Mb... Utopia it's self offers 100Mb to residential and 1Gb to business.

Most have a limit, then you pay by the Gb after that for like another 5Gb, then it becomes unlimited.

I Inquired with xmission the other day about it and they told me that Layton has not rolled out Utopia yet. I asked when he said I have no Idea but they are working on it and that they had some sorta issues or something right now.

not really...total bandwidth allowed per resident is 100mb but only 10-15mb is allowed for internet. The other bandwidth is for tv and phone (wether you use those services or not). Also, the business is not true either. It's a break down as well, we have Utopia at my offices and they only allow 30mb for internet. We have another couple QMOE lines thats 50mb each that smoke the Utopia stuff. We only have Utopia as an additional redundancy. Also, for businesses it's pretty expensive, I think we are paying around $1300 a month for our Utopia connection.

FWIW, you'd be better off calling Utopia directly to find out if it's available or any kind of status. The ISPs won't usually know the details, just if it's available or not.

Yeah I know but I just thought I would Inquire, but I did re-read the sign posted down the road and it pretty much says under construction. I will call Utopia in a few days just out of curiosity to see when/if its gonna be available at my home.

EDIT FOR POINTING OUT MY POST COUNT.... :)

Actually no, the ISP's are the limiting factor... as far as the network is concerned you get 100Mb to your house.
