Volkswagen TDI talk

DPF as stated is biggest issue,). They are around ~$1k to have cut and baked, $1500 new, if doing all of the labor yourself. Should have the EGR filter replaced at the same time (~$250).

I've got 210k on my 2011 2.0TDI golf currently.
What does it take to delete one of these?

For the down pipe I cut off the VW DPF to turbo flange, welded a few 2.5" SS elbows and pipe. I also welded in a bung in the stock location for the upstream O2, added and a v-band to the stock DPF to cat pipe connection. The pipe to the cat has a factory exhaust mount bracket that supports a lot of the exhaust weight for the front of the car so I retained that section and the cat to keep exhaust/fuel smell down. The extra DPF temp sensors are still plugged in and tucked under the engine and bottom splash guard covers. For the EGR I left the topside exhaust valve at the intake installed and fabricated a simple block off plate at the cooler so it looks legit on a visual inspection from above..

For tuning I went through Stevenson tuning in Canada and paid for a DPF delete tune with a Powergate pass through box. I couldn't find anyone in the US willing to do the DPF delete tunes a year and a half ago, 4-5 years ago Malone, Rocket Tunes, and several others all offered DPF deletes and performance tunes. Now they all wanted proof of title change to an offroad vehicle to prove it wouldn't be driven on the street.

I hate to talk crap on Jeff, because I won a free set of injectors from him many years ago, but he has a horrible reputation in the TDI community. I wouldn’t recommend him for tuning, seeing how he’s treated a number of customers.

I can see what you mean and agree about talking bad about someone, but he was the only one who would sell/program a dpf delete tune that I talked to at the time. My stock tune and my emissions compliant Kerma TDI performance tunes had no issues with boost sensor codes, but his performance ones do. I swapped a new 3 bar MAP sensor in and even tried a 4 bar MAP sensor at his insistence,. My stock w/o emissions and my economy w/o emissions tunes from him work fine, but if I load either of his performance tunes it throw low boost reference codes after a few minutes at any throttle input level and goes into limp mode. I would have handed him more at the time, but I had other life events come up, and by the time I got back to driving and messing with the car several months later, it'd been long enough I decided not to chase it. It's a commuter car and does that very well with the stock power levels he provided, so not worth the headache of trying to fight over a few ponies and less mpg to me anymore. It would be fun to have close to the advertised 200hp and 300 ft/lbs. of torque the stage 3 custom tune advertises, but my clutch, tires, and wallet scream at the thought.

EOC out of Canada sells a delete kit with tuning from MRTuning. This combo seems to have the best reviews among the TDI guys these days.

You can also sell your car and dpf for $400-500 to a recycler.

My 2012 wagon still has all emissions intact at 220k miles, but throws codes for DPF and EGR. May get deleted soon.
