Since I haven't been online for a couple of weeks, this is more of a what did I work on since I was here last:

Made a trench:

Put some conduit in the trench:

Wired and insulated:

Installed some drywall:

And finished off the underside and the topside of the roof. Had to work late to beat the rain, but we got it done.

1 and an 1/8th of a row left to go! Then to figure out what walls to do...
Regardless of what you put on the walls, back it up with 1/2" osb. then you can hang anything anywhere. I just when with painted osb... looks like crap, but it's just the garage :)

Finished the ceiling a couple weeks ago and didn't do much over the Christmas - New Year. Picked up some drywall Yesterday and started hanging it. I decided on drywall upper for fire resistance and cost... however I think I'm going to do the lower 4' wainscot as a tan metal, same style as the ceiling just lighter. That way I won't worry too much about water on the lower wall either.

I posted that I wanted one of these in the "I want this" thread and didn't think it was actually going to happen. Then, a couple weeks back I was picking up some box elder wood that had just been cut down off 7200 South and was talking to a guy I had previously met while we were hacking at the wood to manageable chunks. Turns out he had a Vicmarc lathe he was planning to sell.

I picked it up on Saturday and got it into place. The big difference with this one is it weighs about 650 pounds so it deals with off center pieces much better while you work to get them round. Also, the swing is 12" so I can now theoretically turn a 24" bowl. My Nova lathe I've got for sale maxed out at 16". There aren't too many uses for a 24" bowl but being able to start with a shape wider than 16" and get it round in that range will be nice. The spindle is the same thread pitch that I had so my chucks already fit.

Here is a pic of a bowl I roughed out from the box elder I just got. It has bits of burl in it which look pretty neat. This one is roughed and sealed and now will sit for a year maybe until it'll be ready to finish turn and sand and put a finish coat on. The rim on this one is a little over 12" wide right now.

Update to this. Been a while!

The matte black ceiling has been finished for a while. I decided to dry wall the upper walls and then decide what to do with the lower section.

After mulling over options, I decided to go for the same style metal as the ceiling, but just zincalumn coated. I wanted to see if this was going to work well. I figured if I hated it that I could always paint it.

So far... I love it.

I have been trying to wrap up my year long bathroom/termite fiasco. Finally got the stairs and hallway done. I have a few things to do like chip the oncrete for old post down so I can have the carpet fixed. Then I get to move on to the shower....but overall the main stuff is done. From this:

I finished wiring up a new 220 outlet for my new to me wood lathe. The power cable was on the opposite side of the lathe so I had to stretch it tighter than I wanted and the cable was in the way. The best part of the whole thing is I had everything I needed except for the box cover plate so I didn't even have to run to the hardware store to get it working.

Afterwards I started on a bowl that I had roughed out last may and was dry. The turning club is having a "challenge" to turn a bowl with a very thin wall this month so this is my submission. There will be a long time turner table and a noob table so I'm hoping this will be good enough to win something. Its about 1/8" thick and is pretty consistent all the way through from top to base. It took me longer than I thought it would to sand it smooth and look pretty but I'm really happy with it. Its about 7.5" wide and 2.75" tall. I'm taking a 3 day turning class in a couple weeks down in Provo and I'm really excited for it. Partly because I'll be not at work but also because I'll get to learn a bunch and have fun.

Looks good. Ian Parish was doing that quite a bit for a while? Not sure if he's still going or not? Good dude for sure. (https://www.redjeepclub.com/)

That's super cool. I've always hated woodworking and said it's for old people but honestly as I get older I can see the appeal.
