Cleaned this old beaut up today (bought it over a year ago for our last home but never installed it)

Now I just have to either rebuild the chimney outside, or toss up a stainless flue all the way up. I'd love to be able to fire this up soon.

It's been a busy last couple of days, mulched up the corn patch, cut down and mulched up dead branches from the walnut tree, pulled up soaker hoses, picked the last of the apples, picked the beans, tomatoes, peppers, mowed the lawns, fixed a lawn mower my dad gave me, fixed a chipper shredder my neighbor gave up on, cleaned the chimney, covered up the swamp cooler, cleaned up the down spout grates and charged assorted batteries in the toys. Trying to get ready for winter while the weather is nice. Still lots more to do....

I have been working on a fire pit for our back patio. When I ran gas to the garage I had a line t off for a fire pit. When we looked and saw these things going for a few thousand $. I sad F' that and started my own. Picked an octagon for the body and will attempt to pour a concrete cap. Some metal studs, left over hardi backer and some thin brick and I think it will turn out OK.

I have to go back and address my first corners since I didn't so the best job on them...but when it's all said and done I don't think it will be too noticeable. It will house a 24" fire ring and blue glass media(per the wife).

I finally got the base for the fire pit done. Then came the pan and the top cap. My father-in-law welded up a ring that drops into my base and has a top plate about 6" wide in a circle to support concrete caps. He went a little further and welded in expanded metal bottom to hold the lava rock.

Once I had this, I began measuring and making forms for the concrete. I poured it last weekend, and they turned out pretty good.

This week, I was finally receiving the parts to hookup the gas lines. I did all that, and last night got to light it for the first time. I still have to get the lava rock in and the glass media on top....but overall, it's done and, probably a touch late with the weather, but I will still enjoy it on these. cold nights.1668186855446.png
In this pic you can see the metal top that the concrete rests on.

The concrete caps need a little fine tuning to line them up. Then I plan on drilling holes up from the bottom and epoxying in some pins to the concrete base to allow them to not move.

After cleaning up the leaves, swapping the fire ring to a different one (my wife wanted the FIRENADO!!!!) It allowed me to put it jets down vs up to help prevent water getting int. Adding lava rock and glass (still need more, it's amazing how much it takes) this is the final, daylight pics on Sat.
