a 4-door chevy colorado with the vortec 4.3L could be cool too. not sure about reliability/build quality, but I think they're cheap.

I like the 100 series idea Bryson. In order to pull that off, I'd need to sell my current rig, and I just don't think it's very appealing to many people, so I doubt it'll sell. But I agree, a 100 series would do the trick nicely. I hadn't thought of using TG sliders, not a bad idea!

In on page one! Buy a Cruiser again.

80 or 100 series, weld on some TG sliders for $200, pick up an ARB bumper (similar in price to any other ARB bumper,) an OME lift, and use it. 80's can be had for fairly cheap, and 100's are available for less than a leg if you look. I can tell you that the little extra room a 'Cruiser offers over a 4Runner will make a very, very big difference with kids.

With your supposed plans, you shouldn't be needing many parts, so parts cost may not be enough of an issue to matter.

Bolded for agreement. The 4runner is awesome, but I couldn't see my small family in it plus dogs (my dogs equal 17 of your little pup)... I would go for a 100 series, and settle on an 80 Series only if it was in remarkable mechanical condition and/or had some accessories to help get the adventures started.

I don't have money for a rig 'till mine sells (unless I'm swapping parts over).

80 series rock, but I'm a converted IFS guy now (and IRS too if I can find it). I'd love a 100, but I doubt my rig will sell in its current form, so I'm pretty limited as to what I can get. I'm excited to drive Andrew's 4Runner, I think it'll do the trick for a while.

80 series would rock! Locked front and rear stock, seats seven, 4.0 6 cylinder. All you would do is install a OME lift and 35's and armor it could go anywhere.
Oh but get use to 12-14 mpg

I don't think I'm expo enough for a CRD.

I'm not an 80 series guy, even though they're amazing rigs. :(

I do know that I want a vehicle built enough to do Hole in the Rock, though just about any 4x4 with sliders could handle that. If money were no object, it'd be tough to decide between a 1st gen tundra, titan, or 100 series. Since money is a very big object, none of those are options.

Too bad JK's are still out of budget for you, probably still out of budget for me. I pay way too much every month for mine for what I do to it.
