On Tuesday night a rail car loaded with railroad ties caught fire while the train was traveling through Palisade, Colorado. In order to extinguish the fire, the rail car had to be pulled off the track and the ties dumped on the ground. Local firefighters hosed down the inferno and after several hours, finally got it extinguished.

I saw an entire yard of ties stacked high on fire once. Quite the sight to see. About 35 years ago. Got off work about 1am out at the International center and could see the flames that were on Redwood around California ave. So drove towards the to see WTF. Got there looked like only a couple minutes after the firefighters, they were still kinda standing there looking up in amazement like I was. I don't know how tall the flames actually were, but they made telephone poles look short. I don't know if the RR actually owned that storage yard or somebody else, but the whole thing was completely full of nothing but RR ties, on fire.

Swollen Green River. If you zoom in to the top of the stairs visible for the walk path on the right bank, this is the high water mark for Spring 1983. So far, we saw higher water in 2011 than we are currently. We’ll see how bad it gets.

On the Colorado River, we don't see peak flow until June... and we're still some time away from then!

It’s been six months since I went anywhere for work, so they sent me to Oregon this week to remind me what truckers do. Anyway, here we are “working” at Multnomah Falls. Boss convinced me to hike to the top of the falls as well.

That’s Tony ☝️ He’s my rad coworker. He knows everything there is to know about bananas.

I’ve been to these falls 3 times before and never even knew you could hike to the top. It was pretty rad, and almost worth the heart attack.

Tomorrow we’re “working” in Tillamook at the cheese factory and the air museum.

Watched a few 12,000lb trucks fly through the air tonight at Rice-Eccles Stadium with my brother and his kids. Man, I’ve missed the sights, sounds and smells of these things. It’s been too long.

The last one we went to a few years ago was at the Vivant arena, they had one small lump of dirt in the middle, and the trucks had to basically make a 3 point turn at each end. It was such a turn off that we have never desired to go again. That looks significantly better.

I think this was the first time they’d ever been to Rice-Eccles. The track was awesome and they definitely had room to get some speed. Not like the old arena shows at the Maverick Center and others. Next weekend is super cross so hopefully they continue to host the two back to back.

The best one I ever went to was Clash of the Titans out at RMR in the early 2000s. They held it on the oval track and the trucks could get up to 80mph. Big Foot stood it on the rear tires down the whole front stretch! Monster Patrol was the one I liked to see back then.
