Have you read the Emerald Mile? Talks about those floods from the perspective of Glen Canyon Dam, the Grand Canyon and the tour companies that took (take?) people through the Grand Canyon. Absolutely fascinating to learn about the dam and some of the terrible decisions that led to them nearly losing the dam.
I haven't read that book, but I am a pretty big Dam nerd (enthusiast?) and have read quite a bit about the spillway tunnels and how their design caused cavitation and basically destroyed them. Which in turn meant that they couldn't be used to lower the lake level, so they literally used plywood to increase the height of the spillway gates! The water got to within 7' of overtopping the dam, which would have been a disaster of unprecedented magnitude. Could have even caused the failure of Hoover Dam. Here are some pictures of that:

Debris that came out of the spillway tunnels.

You can get real nerdy and read the USBR's report on what went wrong with the spillways here.

Another recovery, this time a rolled Jeep in between Draper and Lehi. We went up last night from the Lehi side and were thwarted by steep rpass, the darkness and the Jeep laying across the road.

We worked with Draper PD to get access this afternoon and safely recovered it off the steep slopes.

We used three winches, two on the uphill side righting it onto its wheels and me pulling it from the front. We did some pendulum action to get it to a flat spot. We verified brakes and steering were in tact and Olly coasted it down the hill and back to safety. The owner is a firefighter and back on shift so we took it right to his house (right below the flop) and pushed it right in their garage :D

You should start a youtube channel documenting these. It'd be a hit.

You probably are not a part of UTV Utah on FB........I saw @Coco posted on it. There have been some extensive discussions with since deleted posts about some recent off trail stuff done by the Diesel Brothers and Whistlin Diesel on Hells Revenge. The tow company YouTuber came up in some of the comments. I think @cruiseroutfit would probably be too educational about the proper way to do things and not being a jackwagon to gain the following of the YouTube zombies out there.

Yeah no :D

I’ve been very fortunate to be involved in previous and upcoming production including XO, Toyota events, etc. I’m honestly not looking for any more of those at this time. I think some of the things I love about doing these recoveries, is practicing my skill sets, using my time/gear for the betterment of others and at best we take a couple photos. No waiting for a drone to get a shot, no dropping off cameramen, no making decisions based on production schedule or timing. XOverland is very authentic, we don’t force anything we wouldn’t otherwise do and we don’t pretend to do anything that didn’t really happen. That said it takes sometimes two and three times as long to go any place when you’re trying to capture it for film.

But Matt and Rory are putting out some fun content and I’m glad to see them succeeding.

I wasn't even a year old when most of the flooding happened, but my Dad worked on 1300 S and 300 W at the time. 13th was a 'river' from 500 E to the Jordan River. My mom has pictures of the our family down there. I need to get her to dig those out.
I was born in 79. I remember going to a gun store right by the capitol with my dad, there were sand bags keeping the store from flooding. Dad bought a Browning Buckmark Silhouette. Now if I could remember where the hell I put my keys.

My dad worked for Staker Paving during the flooding as a truck driver. He hauled load after load of dirt to make the river banks down State St.

But I wasn't born yet.. so I don't remember it ;)
