Stephen and I walked out the different projects yesterday. With enough people, we'll be able to get these done quickly and have a fun time doing it.

The 085 fence projects include one section of fence removal and a couple sections of fence installation. The FS has augers that we are trying to secure, one for each installation location. It appears that we will use rocks and dirt fill rather than concrete for the posts (meaning lots of little helpers with buckets to gather the rocks).


Optimally, we will have the following at each new fence location:

1. 1-2 people to measure and mark the post hole locations
2. 2-3 people to run the FS auger
3. 1-2 to set the poles and fill them in
4. 2 drillers at each location, boring the main hole (assuming 1/2" bolts, this will be 3/8" bit 10" long) and a 1" flat bit to countersink the lag bolt.
5. 1 person with an impact gun to drive the lag bolts in.
6. obviously...someone with a genset and/or onboard air to power the drills and impact gun.

At the fence removal location, we need people with picks and shovels to dig down around the post. We'll either need to dig all the way down or devise some kind of "crane", boom, or overhead support with which to pull up the post. Or...a bobcat/mini-ex, which would work great, but be a pain in the rump to get up there.

1/2" bolt in a 3/8" hole? I think that is 1/2" bolt in a 1/2" hole. Unless you are talking the pilot hole for the threads on the lag bolt.

I can come and bring the impact, genset, 115v compressor (will run off the genset with power to spare) and a cordless drill.

Yes, I am talking about the pilot hole for the threads. We can do a 1/2" hole for the shoulder, but I don't think it's necessary.

Fantastic on the equipment!!! How many drills will it run? Is the impact electric or air? (assuming air, since you mentioned the compressor).

K, that's 2 gensets (yours and Kirk's), I think 1 more will do it. Still need more drills and impact guns. If we don't have impact guns, no big deal, they just make it easier. We may get some drills from the FS, but I'd rather not count on it.

It is a 5000w generator. I could probably round up another impact (not very good but should work for wood). You are correct on the air. My cordless drill is a Milwaukee v28 so it does pretty well. I don't have a corded one.

We'll only need one impact per location, so you don't need to worry about a 2nd. I was speaking for the whole project...we still need 1-2 for the other specific locations. Best to keep happy tools near their happy owners.

That is a NICE drill (just looked it up). It will likely do better than the ones we used building our cabin, they didn't last very long drilling pilot holes in the logs and beams for the deck except for the shallow countersink. We had a lot more holes to do though.

I'd suggest another 1-2 drills at this location with at least one being 120V, same for the other locations...We need a few to step up with drills...what say you folks that have already posted?

Tom, that is a great idea, I was thinking something like that when I was up there Sunday. I did something similar with my jeep last summer for a neighbor.

I'll put you on the fence removal crew. Bring the drill, shovel and pick and I'll get some shovels, picks, bars, etc from the FS. If you guys get done before the fence builders then we'll have you help them too. Don't make a special trip to the cabin to get the gen.
