Falken Rocky Mountain AT-S tires SUCK in the snow.

Balding Michelin Hydroedge tires with 70,000 miles on them also suck, for the record. Combined with front wheel drive and a working hand brake though, they drift like a champ.

    South-East Utah Moab February 16th

Anyone planning on being in Moab February 16th? Some of my family will be hiking that weekend, and I would like to bring the Jeep and wheel on Saturday.

Dual wall tents. Condensation passes through the inner mesh walls, and freezes on the outer wall, outside the tent.

    Got the flu?

Flu-free in this house so far. With two kids in school that's pretty amazing. 3 of the four of use have had flu shots. I just heard on the news that this year's shot is ~67% effective. I haven't gotten the flu since I started getting the flu shots at work every year, so I'll stick with it.

Did we talk about pads yet? Is there an option that's as light, compact, and thick (2.5"!) as the Neoair Xlite without being so annoyingly loud and krinkly?

Sorry, forgot to paste. The Tarptent Contrail was the one that caught my eye. It's an extra pound, but it seems like it just might be worth carrying.

Not quite a bivy, but this may be what I eventually pick up. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

I love this idea! I'm planning a Grand Canyon trek, and will be carrying a pair of trekking poles anyway. If I could use them to create a tent, without carrying much more weight than a bivy, that would be perfect! Got any examples/links?

Great link! I've been looking at bivy sacks too, to keep a down bag dry without carrying too much weight. So what would I hate about the ruta locura wasatch bivy? www.rutalocura.com/Bivy.html
