    The Ham Radio Thread

I haven't used one, but Yaesu's FTM-6000R seems to hit all your hot buttons, including ease of use. (They even brag about their new E2O-III user interface and how it is so easy to operate.)...

Wow. Seeing this screen shot from Cars is a vivid illustration of how right Disney got it when they built 'Cars Land' in DCA.

So I picked up a project TJ

x2. In fact, I wouldn't spend money on any modifications for a D35, as you'll just be throwing away that money when you remove the D35 and replace it with something better. Seriously.

So I picked up a project TJ

For a 1999 4.0L TJ, you had two choices: either 3.07 or 3.73 axle ratio. If you crawl underneath and take a close look at the front pumpkin, you'll see stamped numbers telling you the (stock) ratio. Or, if you're lazy, you can shoot me the last 8 digits of the VIN and I'll look it up for you.

Spinoff: Do your kids (or you) drive a manual transmission?

Back when I got my license, every car the family owned had a manual transmission... so I had no choice. I'm glad it was like that, since I enjoy rowing my own gears when I can. The first automatic I owned was my 4th car (a pickup, actually) IIRC. My wife can drive a stick, and she actually...

    Dodge 48RE upgrades and longevity

Installing the biggest, baddest trans fluid cooler you can find is a fantastic idea for any tow rig IMO. I did the same thing on my 8.1L Suburban. I removed the stock external cooler and replaced it with the Tru-Cool unit that so many forum members recommended very highly. This change dropped...

I remember hearing about that place, and I kept telling myself to go check it out... but I never did. :(

    old school video games

Speaking of full-size arcade games, does anyone else here ever visit any of the local arcades? My personal favorite is Nickel Mania. They have locations in Springville, West Jordan, and Murray... all of which are about equal distance from my home in Lehi, so I rotate between Springville and WJ...

    old school video games

Relative to this topic, the highlight of my life was the mid-to-late '90s and the original Quake. In the off-campus apartment complex where I lived, virtually everybody played this game. Being the days before wi-fi, we had (obviously small) individual wired Ethernet networks in a few...

    old school video games

Oh, wow. That's a game I haven't even thought about in years. Descent was a fantastic game--the first truly 3D FPS. There were numerous occasions where you'd be down in a mine, flying along for quite some time... only to suddenly realize you had been upside down for who knows how long. It was...

The other day, I saw this in the Lighten the Mood thread: Like many of you here, I was also a fan of Pitfall. Apparently unlike many of you here, I actually still play it at home on occasion. Back around Christmas 2017, I bought myself an Atari Flashback 8 Gold. This is a small standalone...

What vehicles to avoid buying, teenager style.

If we didn't already have the Civic, this is the exact sort of car we would have purchased.

What vehicles to avoid buying, teenager style.

My wife still fondly speaks of the Geo Prizm she used to own years ago. She (still) calls it Ol' Reliable, and it earned that name. It survived hundreds of thousands of miles and two minor crashes, but was finally taken off the road after a third crash when it was t-boned by a stop sign runner...

What vehicles to avoid buying, teenager style.

The all-new Subaru FB engine debuted in 2011 on the Forester (2.5L n/a only). For 2012, a 2.0L version was introduced for the redesigned Impreza, and that same 2.0L engine was also used in the new-for-2013 Crosstrek. In 2013, the same 2.5L engine from the Forester was installed in the Legacy and...

    Lighten the mood

I still remember when Ted Bundy was executed. It was January 1989, my freshman year of college, and some girls in the neighboring campus housing decided to celibrate by holding a 'Ted is dead' party. Among other appropriate activities, we played Pin the Ted to the Electric Chair. For our final...
