What did you work on Today; Home Edition

I have no photo to post, but: When we got married last August, my wife had said she wanted me to paint two rooms of the house very specific colors before she moved in. By the time she gave me the appropriate color code info (less than a week before we moved her in), I just didn't have enough...

'71 Impala 4 door... what should I do with it?

Since I recently announced my plan to buy Ryan's Custom Cruiser wagon, I feel obligated to chime in to this thread. You've already answered this question: The older I get, the more I'm falling in love with cheap old cars. Just bring it back to life and drive the thing. Don't worry about...

    What are you listening to?

Are you familiar with the band Therion? They began in the late '80s as just another run-of-the-mill Swedish death metal band, and their first two albums reflect this style. Starting with their third album (Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas), they slowly began incorporating some classical...

Because Roadkill, -or- I bought an old ugly domestic car

You guys remember my friend Ryan's Olds Custom Cruiser? The one where we built and installed an identical big block 454 engine? He suddenly needs to unload it, and I decided I wanted it too badly to pass it up... so I'm buying it.

Because Roadkill, -or- I bought an old ugly domestic car

The final chapter of my Grand Prix ownership is about to be written. I am preparing to sell this vehicle to make room for another car I've just agreed to purchase. Because you all read along throughout the car's transformation, I felt like I should also let you guys know that I'm about to send...

My new daily driver, -OR- it's all my fault gas prices shot way up

Fifteen month ownership update I've been daily driving the Corvette for 15 months now, except on days with (potentially) snowy roads. How has it been? In a word, blissful. The car frequently draws comments and thumbs up from a variety of onlookers. The rotating headlights have a celebrity...

    Turbo time!

Hmm. Maybe? That's interesting that the pump did work, even if only briefly. I don't recall hearing anything about this trick. Personally, I've never had to do it. I lucked out--the fuel pump in my GLHS (which sat for ~7 years before I got it) still works just fine.

Hmm. Maybe I should just wrap the whole mess in a ShamWow and call it good?

Sweet! Start diagnosing at the (in-tank) pump. Is it getting power back there? BTW: when you first key ON before cranking, the fuel pump should prime for about 3 seconds or so--you can typically hear this inside the car. Another thing: these engines run at 55 psi fuel pressure, and the...

But, wait--there's more! In my photo above, I thought all I needed to do was repair the PVC pipe. As I went to do so, I found out I was wrong. See the valve sitting there (where the protective plastic cover thingy used to be)? Turns out its housing has also cracked, so I'll need to get a new...

Wife went out of town for a long weekend with her girlfriends. She left me a Honeydo List, the top item being, Fix the backyard sprinklers or else! <gulp> After 4+ hours of digging dirt and cutting roots from the neighbor's tree, I'm finally about ready to repair the water line. Oh, I need to...

    The GMRS Radio Thread

If all you want to do is communicate among your group of trail rigs, I think GMRS is a fantastic solution. Even though I'm already running ham radio, the growing popularity of GMRS makes it inevitable that I'll need to install one of those in my Jeep as well. I'm already eyeing the Midland MTX115.
