Let's talk Chicken.. The pets, not the food..

Sure, we get plenty of mice, and then the snakes that follow them. We've killed a few rattlers and relocated some bull and king snakes (the wife HATES snakes of any kind). But trapping mice gives the kids something else to do, and teaches them about the predator prey relationship. The damn...

Yeah, they're like little feathered pigs.

Let's talk Chicken.. The pets, not the food..

We started with a few chickens in 2013 for chick days, just "...to see what it's like." Now the back corner or our property is fenced, with four fully enclosed coops and a large semi-free ranging backyard flock. We now raise show quality Ameraucanas (about 15) and bantam Cochins (another 15ish)...

    Whiskey

Could be; it was pretty harsh to me. But, I'm beer drinker at my core, so who knows? I do have a fondness for Jameson and Ginger...

    Whiskey

Scored a gift basket the other night that held this bottle from a local distillery. Tried it out tonight and continued proving to myself that I'm not a bourbon fan, one sip at a time.

What's the easy option for first-timer tax filing?

Last year we just printed out the 1040 for my daughter and filled it in. She only has employment income, so it was pretty straightforward. My other kids had other income (4-H sale) that made it more complicated, so I used the HR Block online program. It's nice because it transferred everything...

Mental health: it’s ok to talk.

Speaking of outside time... One of the best things to come out of COVID for me was a smartwatch. My wife got me one not longer we got stuck working from home. It's set to give me an hourly reminder to walk. So, at ten 'til every hour, I get up, go outside, and walk around the house or office...

The "Back in my day" thread.

Back in my day, the family TV had only one channel. If we didn't like what was on NBC, we were hosed.

    Hunting Season Opened for us

Had a youth cow elk hunt last week. Unfortunately my youngest daughter got skunked on her first elk hunt. My 17-yo son, however, is now 6 for 6 on elk.

    Lighten the mood

    Brake controller recommendations

Current brake controller gave up the ghost, so I'm in the market for a new one before a Christmas trip towing the fifth wheel. I like the idea of the concealed units like the Red Arc or Curt, but I'm not personally familiar with them or someone who is. Anyone here have any experience with them...

We have a couple Polish and a silkie; the kids call them "rock star chickens."

    Vehicle Detailing

I firmly believe that washing my truck only serves to remove its protective layer and make it more prone to desert pinstriping.

    Hunting Season Opened for us

Hunting season continued with my first pronghorn tag in at least a decade. (Yes, I meant to hit him there, he was quartering away very tightly and downhill from me.) My dad scored too.
