I always thought that the outer ring was larger in diameter also. That would also help your bead... Guess I am a newbie at this :D

see I always assumed the tire still sat against the stock lip of the rim and the rings just made the lip larger. I never got that you only put the inner bead of the tire over the rim lip. then the other just sits on the outside? Gets clamped flat and the BACK of the outside bead is pressed...

so you just squish the back of the tire against the front of the inside bead? How does the tire not walk up or down off the inner bead?
