Tig welder needed to fix front cover on 99' F-250

Ford changed the housings. If you put the gasket for the new cover on the old cover it cracks the cover but if you put the old gasket on the new cover you're fine. It's a TERRIBLE design from ford. Rich didn't know a change had been made, used the gasket he was sold and then put it on and it...

Tig welder needed to fix front cover on 99' F-250

I believe inside pressure is in the 60psi range. The problem is to take off the front cover it requires simply too much work and if we put that much work in we'd just buy a new front cover for it. How long/well does JB weld hold up to oil and shaking? Any other options other than JB weld...

Tig welder needed to fix front cover on 99' F-250

We've debated going the JB weld route but want it to be long lasting and not create more problems down the road. The truck has fairly low miles on it for a diesel and has a LOT of life left so I'd hate to have the JB weld come off and create issues internally. Any reason I should worry about...

Tig welder needed to fix front cover on 99' F-250

My buddy Rich's F-250 powerstroke has a cracked front cover. The crack is about an inch long and very thin. It's currently wheeping oil from the crack. You have to pull the motor or cut out the crossmember to pull the drain pan and remove the front cover. Rich wants to avoid doing that at all...

    Any Mtn Bikers on RME?

I've been out of the game for a LONG time. I live off of 215 and I-15. Anyone know of some decent short trails without a ton of up hill that I can start off with? My cardio is terrible and biking is about the only palatable form of cardio for me.

Let me know, since I have room for it I'll just be hanging on to it for a bit until someone wants it... and if no one wants it I'm sure it'll find it's way under my truck. :)

    First time home buying advice

I'd drive a budget commuter too but I work in south sandy and the wife works in Cottonwood Heights so quite a bit more distance, plus the wife would either be driving her cherokee or a minivan. The $6000 a year was pretty conservative for us to both commute, even you spend over $2000 annually...

    First time home buying advice

Living much more than 15 minutes from work is definite no go for the wife and less desirable for me as well. Factor in wear and tear on the vehicles and gas prices from a financial standpoint and it doesn't really make it all that desirable. Oh, and I hate commuting, my commute in CA was a...

    First time home buying advice

I really appreciate all the responses. As of right now we're looking into places that will have rental income attached (duplex or worst case scenario mother in law basement). We're just starting our family so we don't currently need a lot of room to grow. If we had a garage we'd be perfectly...

    First time home buying advice

Good advice and I agree with you completely. We're most certainly not counting on rental income or relying on it in any way but we are hoping to factor it in if all goes to plan. I too don't believe that a home should be seen as an investment unless you derive some form of rental return on it...

    First time home buying advice

That sounds great in theory but in practice here it doesn't figure. Renting is the same price as buying right now. Rents will only go up over time while the cost of a mortgage is fixed. At around a 3.6% interest rate it just doesn't make sense to rent when the market is slightly depressed and...

FJ-80 Axles and FJ80 HP 5.29 Zip Locker diff

Yes, already tapped but no compressor. At $900 I'm not making a dime off the 3rd, just re-cooping what I have spent on it (minus gas money and my time). This was a professional install by a friend that works for an Idaho 4x4 shop. He's built close to 50 toy 3rds with no problems other than one...

Yes, already tapped but no compressor. I'm actually loosing a bit of $$$ at $900. This was a professional install by a friend that works for an Idaho 4x4 shop. He's built close to 50 toy 3rds with no problems other than one kid with a VERY heavy foot shearing off a few teeth on a 4cyl diff in...

    First time home buying advice

We've been looking for a duplex. If we could find one that isn't super far from work we would do it in a heart beat. Renting out a portion of a home or having a duplex has been part of our plan the entire time and I think it's a great option for couples starting out. I think I may have given...

    First time home buying advice

We plan on putting about $500 a month down on principle at least until PMI is dropped which leaves us with at least $1500 a month going into savings to build that rainy day fund back up. I would like to put back more but right now that's as good as we can do until my school loans are 100% payed off.
