and back on track... Rear shock reassembled, oil added, and charged with nitrogen. As mentioned before, (for early '80s technology) I'm pretty impressed with the shock. The remote reservoir doesn't have a modern schrader valve and the comp. and rebound can only be adjusted in equal amounts...

Threw the new clutch cable on yesterday and the clutch pull certainly won't require 4 fingers now, but I'm kicking myself for not getting a new return spring. I should have known a 30 year old return spring probably wouldn't be very functional.

A big thanks to Carl for the use of his lathe. :greg: 1 groove would've been good enough, but I cut a couple more for good measure.

Sorry man, I've been dropping the ball on weighing stuff. I will definitely get the bike on a scale once fully assembled. Next time I've got the rear wheel off, I'll weigh that too (as I'm curious now how it compares to a modern wheelset).

FWIW, here's the bare shock body with the 3 stock snap-ring grooves. Kinda scrawny by todays standards, but will get the job done. Too bad it was recently rebuilt (wasted oil and nitrogen).

Ha! Remember when we'd just ride everything as-is and not think twice about it? I kinda miss that. Getting my modern bike's suspension to work "right" (whatever the hell that is...), consistently keeps me up at night.

On these older shock bodies, the OD is not threaded. Instead, they have a couple snap-ring grooves to accomplish the same thing, but with much less adjustability. Now that I have the new spring and correct rate, I can't achieve the right race sag/ride height without machining additional...

    The upcoming moto ride/quick report.

I would've gone for sure, but holiday pay at work is just too good to pass up. Let me know the next time you go. Love that Soldier's Pass area...

Got more parts in the way of a Motion Pro clutch cable and a Factory Connection shock spring (yellow, of course). Still hoping to find a used Nissin front brake perch/master cyl./hose setup if anyone has one for sale. Hoping to find something local.

I dunno, we'll have to see how it stacks up against a 450. :)

^^^^ This. I weigh almost 100 lbs. less than you, and a 250f with a big bore kit was a bit light on power at times for me. I vote for the 450.

Yep, we've been using plenty of blue Loctite on this thing. With the kickstand down and idling, it vibrates itself across the driveway until it runs out of cement.

Thanks man, I'm really liking how its turning out. BTW, on the shock spring... apparently, many of the Suzuki RM250s ran the SRSP 6727 and most are yellow. :)

A few more... Side plastic in good shape, but not shown. Tank is also good, but due to discoloration (where the stock stickers were), the IT logos will be printed onto a (blue) color matched sheet, then cut to the shape of the tank sides. I decided on a shock spring rate, but haven't...

I've got a 5.2 for the 300 on the shelf. Betting its not the correct ID and length, but maybe I should check before assuming. :D Edit: After visiting the Race Tech site, they're really different dimensionally. FWIW, I'll be needing a single rate, 66.9mm ID1 / 64.4mm ID2 x 267mm long coil. I...

New x-ring chain, new Dunlop (mentioned above), new chain guide parts (to replace the broken ones), and had Pro Action up here in Heber rebuild the shock and recharge (no re-valve at this time). We threw the stock spring back on temporarily, but its waaaay too soft. On the shock spring, my...

BTW, the current front brake master cylinder will work fine for testing, but I'd like to replace it with a version that has the banjo fitting threaded in from the front (not the side) for better hose routing. If anyone has a Japanese bike with a Nissin setup they're parting out, let me know...

Rasied the bars up 1 1/4", Renthal bars, Cycra handguards, new grips, and leaving the stock clutch lever for now. The clutch pull is evil, but a new cable from Motion Pro is on the way. stock throttle tube and throttle cable work fine and will stay in place for now. The DRZ display was moved a...
