    Noob tow rig questions

If you took it as me jumping down your throat, I'm sorry about my internet persona. What I'm say is only YOU can decide what YOU need. Forget the "want" part. We all want to smoke the tires at evey light, get 45 MPG while towing, and spend no money keeping it together. So, after 14 pages...

    Noob tow rig questions

I would NEVER recommend a half ton, but it "would" do what you need and I have done as have many have done it fine. My thing is, you've been all over the place with this. A diesel that sees one mile a day is going to kill you on maintainance. A gasser, less. A diesel seeing 1 mile a day will get...

    Noob tow rig questions

Excellent tow rig, and probably the worst commuter rig you could ever purchase.. So, what is it you want? Tow rig, or commuter? The two are NOT the same. You're paying a premium for that truck, and may never "use" it. Hell, a half ton Chebby will tow your Toyota just fine, and you'll get...

    Your "On-Star" is watching you...

Don't blame it on GM, Ford has MYSYNC which is about the same. Dodge will have the same I'm sure, in about 10 years.... :D

    Toyota Tacoma...

You know if you start driving a Tacoma, you'll start acting like one.

    Noob tow rig questions

The nice thing about thinking the 68 to 72 route is that if you shop carefully you'll be able to drive it for years, and still sell it for what you have into it. The down side, it may not have the dependabilty you're looking for without doing some work.

    Noob tow rig questions

A 454 is almost a direct bolt in replacement. I towed with a big block 72 for years. If you can find a decent 3/4 ton, you'll be money ahead in the long run. I'd also go with the 71 to 72 for the better brakes, not to mention looks, but I'm kinda biased that way.

Sweet, I love the stupid little problems! :D

    Noob tow rig questions

This is kinda what I was thinking. When I was commuting in mine, it was far more reliable on the trail. The stupid little things tended to show up on the street rather than on the trail. Only issue I see in your logic is that 81 is a ticket waiting to happen. You'll need to make that more UHP...

    Noob tow rig questions

For this reason alone, DO NOT get a diesel! If you do, get a cheap commuter too. That diesel wont last long being driven that way.

    Noob tow rig questions

The longer wheelbase will tow better, Keep in mind, Ford's turning radius sucks. Add to that four doors, and a long bed, and you'll feel like you're trying to park a blimp. Everything Mbryson said is true. I'd really think twice about a diesel as a commuter though. Every diesel shoud come...

    noisy steering.

Normally noise is caused by air. If you've been driving this for a while, that probably isn't the issue. Might be a lack of flow. Did you happen to drill out the orfice in the pump when you installed the ram?

    Yet another LONG build thread

Then today, the stars aligned and I stumbled upon the exact wheels I've been looking for for months! Finally, the perfect touch for the 70's look I'm trying to achieve.

    Yet another LONG build thread

Ok, back on track. I've been driving this thing of and on for a few months. All system function great, even the A/C blows nice and cold now. As a favor to a friend, I pulled it out of the garage, and put it in his charity car show.

    Provo's conservative areas

I spend about a month out of the year in Cali, and everything I've read (on both sides) is exagerated a bit. Both places have good hoods and bad, but there are really no bad cities. I just find it funny the Californians running to Utah and Idaho. They move in and love it for a while, then the...

    Provo's conservative areas

You're in for a rude awakening, I'm afraid. Everything you are running from is alive and well in Utah as well. The best you can hope for is to find a nice neighboorhood, and teach your kid YOUR values. If you're trying to find an entire city that shares your values, anywhere along the wasatch...

    Line locks??

Again, a line lock will NOT pass safety inspection. E brakes must be a separate system from the hydraulic brake system. This being said, you can add a line lock and keep the e brake and be legal. I wouldn't recomend it, becasue every line lock I've ever had tends to bleed off pressure after time.

    Thinking about buying a MINI

Obviously, not a fan of the Libby, Scion, or Mini. I will admit to being both a fan of Honda and Toyota though. My point I guess is, there's a big difference between a good commuter car, and a really fun car. You can commute in a fun car if you wish, but be preparred to pay the price. The...
