Do it the way the Idahoans do it.. Carhart coveralls soaked in gear oil,hydraulic fluid, etc, so that they are waterproof.

I found one out of a 1991 ford. Paid 100 bucks for it. Then I had to sell it to help cover the repair bill for a transmission in my truck.

I think most of the super duty's with a diesel were 3.73 ratios stock. I have 4.10s in my 1996 with 285 tires I turn at about 2200 rpm @ 68 mph. That is were I drive the truck. I wish that I had 3.50 gears in it. I could go a little faster without lossing the mpg's. Mileage will go down fast...

I think this looks like alot of fun. The trail does not seem to difficult. Is it doable in a stock jeep? When does this trail usually get open in the spring time. I was thinking either a spring or maybe a fall moab trip and do this trail also. Can it be done in a day?

I just use thompsons deck sealant a couple times a year. Take it to the car wash and pressure wash the deck really good. I use a garden sprayer to apply the sealeant. Takes about 1/3-1/2 gallon. I have heard of people using engine oil and atf to treat it. I guess it works great but I dont...

Trying to sell something like that in Utah would be very difficult. It would probably apraise for 12-15k. But that can be completly different than what it could be sold for. The real world value of classic cars has gone down the toilet. Just the same lucky he is a lucky sucker:)

By the way working on a diesel is much different than a gas motor. The biggest problem for most techs is that they dont know how. The fuel systems are different, they have turbos, high pressure oil pumps, etc. All of the big three diesels are very different. Replace a water pump on a cummins...

Yes running a diesel out of fuel is hard on parts. Diesel is a natural lube. It increases wear on injectors, pumps etc. Is it going to kill a motor the first time it happens? Not likely. That being said dont do it. Couple of things about your ford stuff. I belive only half tons got air bags...
