Automatic or manual tranny for off-roading?

Autos rule for rock crawling. For all around trail use I perfer the manual. The secret to enjoying a manual is lots of low gearing.

    Winch motor short?

Any thing is possible. Best thing to do is a draw test and see if anything weird is going on. If it is start unplugging things till you find the problem.

    Toyota front axle seals.

I am working on this for a guy. It is leaking gear oil into the wheel bearings. I have found the oil seal located inside the knuckle. I need to find the gasket located right behind the spindle. Also it says to use mos2 grease to pack the knuckle with. What is this stuff and where can I get it?

    Jeepster ??

Does anybody out there know anything about these? I might be getting one a partial trade. I think it is a 1971. It has the little v-6 in it. Are they basically a cj with a different body? What about drivetrain? Thanks

    LOW compression Left side

Any good repair shop should be able to perform a leak down test and verify if you losing compresion from the valve or the rings. This is not the same as a compression test. The cylinders are compressed with air.

    dealer problems at doug smith

Good luck with the battle. Like was said earlier it pays to find a local shop that you can trust. Tsb do not have to be performed by the dealer only warranty work. Im guessing you paid for this repair. It is this kind of bs that gives mechanics a bad rap. I would go over their head if you have...

    dealer problems at doug smith

I am a shop manager. I have ran into this problem with some of my techs in the past. For me the problem is usually remedied before the car every leaves my shop and the customer never knows about it. I used to think that dealer techs were smart and did a good job(at least working on the cars that...

CJ7 - Opposite from everything you know

Yes diesels are cool. But they stink, noisy, and most if not all leave their mark everywere they go. Get a set of alcan springs. Follow the K.I.S.S method(keep it simple stupid). Get yourself a 4.8 or 5.3 gm hooked to a 700r4/4l60e with that overdrive trans and high axle gears you should easily...

Went up it last night. Had to winch a couple times through snow. Made it close to the rodeo grounds. The snow was just to deep and it was getting late.
