    Proud father moments

My 14yo son found a dead tree in the forest behind the house, cut it up, hauled the logs, split and stacked them over the weekend. He only needed a little help splitting a few of the really tough ones.

How nit-picky are you with contractors

I'm honestly impressed with his response. That has not been my experience with most contractors (which is why I rarely use them anymore). Either they are great and don't need to be nit picked, or they do crap work and expect you to be happy about it. Good on him and definitely deserves a good...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

Worked on the rusted out tractor wheel. First I went over the whole thing with the needle scaler: Then I started cutting to get back to good metal. Then started welding in patches. When I started this project it seemed straightforward in my head, but it turns out that...

Is it ok to have a "make light of" thread?

Not my phone number I've had for the last couple of years. Or the one I had before that. I can't remember the one I had before that, but my wife has had the same number for the last ~20 years and it doesn't pull hers up either. My current address doesn't find me (2.5 years), or my last address...

General Tech What did you work on Today?

It was actually from being buried in the dirt for ~20 years before I got ahold of it. No calcium in these wheels, they had tubes from the factory. I was thinking of you when I was trying to get it off, do you have a grabber on your service truck? Or at least a crane?

    2006 - SAE Mini Baja

Mini Baja was the only thing that kept me sane in school. 2002 in Logan and 2005 in Tucson. That's where I got my start in machining and welding. Learned way more working on that than I ever did in class. Lots of fond memories.

Cities vs Urban vs Rural and other culture chat (Mental health - Spin off thread)

I used to feel like this a lot every time I left the area and then came back. Then I moved out of the city. I still feel like that when I am back in the city but that only happens for a few hours a month or so now. Mental health is so much better. It took some (lots actually) of sacrifices to...
