So I thought I would start a build thread. The Willys was advertised on KSL as a 1948 but it is actually a 1951 CJ3A. There are several numbers on the Willys I found:
Tag: 451-GB1 28496
Engine by Water Pump: 4LR190690
Engine embossed on block: 908756*15, the star is actually one dot in the...
I got home around midnight last night. This morning I drove it off the trailer and drove around for a couple of minutes. Couldn't get the low range to work but I think the hole through the tub just needs reamed out more. Also none of the lights work. I'll keep everyone updated when I get to...
So I ended up getting it. I charged the battery at my dad's house and it started right up and sounded good. Can't wait to get it home and play. I did end up using the uhaul. It was barely wide enough to fit it on. I'll start a build thread as soon as I get it going.
So one more quick question. From the internet these weigh around 1800 pounds. I have a single axle motorcycle trailer that is big enough to fit it. I haul our two road bikes on it all the time. They way around 1600 lbs. The tires will handle up to something like 1900 pounds. Do you think it...
So I think I decided I'm going to get this

I need to get it down to me in Cali. The front bumper looks stock, do you think I could mount a tow bar to it if I backed it with a 4x6 piece of 1/4"? That way I can flat tow it home.
I'll see if I can...
I was also thinking of maybe a early Bronco of 40 series Land Cruiser. Last time I looked at early Broncos they were crazy expensive. Don't know about the Cruiser's. I'm sure Kurt knows of some good finds out there :)
Great ideas guys. I've always wanted to get my pilot license but I've always held off because it is so expensive to rent planes and actually fly.
I love the idea of a Blazer, I hadn't even thought of that. I had a '71 Blazer that is one of my all time favorite vehicles I owned. It was named...
I like it. You're right, it would be more fun to end up with something retro, cool, original, and can at least do dirt roads. I don't like the look of the YJ but is it a good platform? Never thought about that...hmm
My wife just told me she doesn't like the look of the Commando and since she is my Sugar Mama I may have to pass on this. I guess "She who has the money makes the rules" :squint: I'll let you know if I can talk her into it.
Okay people, instead of who has what for sale (not that it doesn't give me ideas) lets get this back to "What type of project or hobby would you do or at least start on if you had $5000 to spend on it?"
I always thought that would be cool. Get a CJ-5 or something similar, stretch the frame, mount the grill way forward and then put a big old V8 between the two. You could go without the top on it and chop the windshield down a couple of inches. I've almost talked myself into it :D
So being retired has lots of advantages but I am getting bored. I put 3000 miles on the Harley last month but have gone on all the rides close by five or six times each. I have a little TW200 that I ride around in the desert and explore but I've explored a lot of the places around here. I can...
