Its like 32 miles one way. Even a YZ250 2 stroke can do that. Have gas at the truck and you'll be fine.

I'm not so sure about that. My stock 300 had a range of about 60 miles. That's easy two track riding, no sand, etc. This is also why I plan to head down the trail a short ways maybe knocking that down to 25ish miles each way. (Not sure we'll actually make it in that far with stock vehicles pulling bike trailers.) All I have to say is know your bike. I'd plan 70 miles just to be safe, if you can't do that on a single tank, carry something extra (even a single extra liter would probably suffice).

BTW Russ, you in on this trip? :D

I've carried an extra 2l soda bottle full if gas before in my camelbak and it wasn't bad .

Yep, I've done similar with the aluminum msr bottles. Dump it in as soon as you have room in you tank and you no longer have the extra weight on your back. The 2 liter would be even nicer because you could then collapse the bottle freeing up that space in your bag. I think we can get anyone down and back on this trail that wants to go.

BTW Russ, you in on this trip? :D

Been thinking about it. My daughter gets married on the 4th of May and as its looking, I may not have the money to go. OUCH. I have already put down deposits enough to buy me a brand new bike. It is my only princess though.

But since you did ask, my thoughts are for the drive time there and the short trip in and out I would rather go to the swell and run the colored trails and Devils Race Track. I have run HITR on a bike at the expense of your broken foot. It was fun, I got to ride a very smooth Husky. It would definitely be funner on my WR but I am still wanting to spend some time in the Swell.

I am not on or off that list as of yet.

By the way, thanks again for the box load of parts.

I will put in for the time off.

Few questions? I have a stock yz250 tank, will it be enough for this trail? I would have to say not, but I do not have much experience with how many miles I can get out of this tank.

Second: What time on the 10th would we be leaving and ~ what time would be be leaving on the 12th? The 12th is Mothers day so I would like to be home to spend time with my mother.

That is about all I have for now, but I'm sure more will come.

I'm still a maybe. It all comes down to the time it takes to get to the trailhead and who I could catch a ride with on the way there.

I think you'll have to figure out the fuel question, we've got a month and a half before the ride :) As I said earlier, I would plan on needing a range of 70 miles. If you need to carry extra fuel, you could do that, but just know what you may or may not need.

As for when you come home, I'm not planning on doing any riding on the 12th. If anyone wants to, they are welcome to, I was planning on cleaning up camp and taking off. Planning to be home early afternoonish, but again, that's entirely up to you on when you head home.

Great, thanks for the info.

Re: Bikes...HITR Planning Thread, May 10-12

I have the time off work but haven't found a ride yet. So I'm still a maybe I guess. If you need to bump me off the list for people that want to go that can commit I understand.

Ok, so anyone that was for sure planning to make this trip on the 10-12, would you not be able to make this if we changed it to the 24-26? I honestly didn't realize Mother's Day was the 12th when I threw those dates out, and while my wife is fine with me going, I'd like to be home for her that day and I've gotten a few guys that couldn't go because of the timing. So if we pushed it out two weeks, do we have the same (or more) committed to the trip?

As much as I would like to go and I do have work off for the 10-12 dates but realistically the money I would spend on fuel to do the 600 ish miles round trip solo could be better spent other places. So take me off the maybe list. Have fun and be safe guys.
