This is something I would very much like to do, but at a later date. We were down there last year and the SECOND we left the payment the centering pin on my Cherokee popped. We got to Gray Mesa but decided we were too far back in there with potential problems, so we never finished the trail. I think it would be much more enjoyable on a dirt bike.

This will happen for me and my old man one day. Here is a Youtube video of some highlights of the trail. The guy says it took him around 5 hours round trip riding "fairly hard".

Sweet! I would love to do this ride. We should plan another trip later in the year so I can get more seat time on my bike first.

the section at 1:13 is completely different (bigger and more washed out) now.

This is what it looks like now:

That video made me want to head down and see if I could ride it. But sadly I'm out of vacation time this year. Maybe next year.

Yep, as long as we have guys willing to ride still, I'm in. I'm planning to be on the road from my house (in Riverton) around 9am on Friday. I'm planning a 6 hour drive (according to Google Maps, it's a little under 6 hours). If anyone wants to caravan down, I'd be happy to meet somewhere. I'm not planning on taking the ferry across this time. If I feel good after riding all-day, I'll come home Saturday night. If I'm tired, I'll stay till Sunday morning and get up bright and early and take-off. It'll be a long drive for a day trip, but I think it will be worth it for sure.

I hate to say it, but I'm not going to make it. Between riding quite a bit and being out of town for work, my wife wants to spend Memorial Day weekend camping somewhere. I really want to ride HITR, but it's not going to happen on this trip. Have fun guys!

Somehow I did not ever put it together that this was Memorial Day weekend until I read Greg's post. My family puts on a 5k & 15k at Homestead in Midway every year and have for almost 30 years. Unfortunately I can't back out cause I am the course setup guy and no one else knows what needs to be done. If this was somehow changed until the next weekend I would be back in. I still want to do this and only with a group that knows what they're doing. Sorry guys.

I'm headed down but we will be with a small group, but no bikes, just SUV's One JK, one 100 series Landcruiser and a RZR4. We're headed down Friday morn to Monday. Stop and say hi if you see me.

Sorry Caleb, I think if I went on one more long ride and left Catherine at home... there would be divorce papers on the table when I got back.

No worries Greg. I know how that goes :D I have a couple things for you then.

Unless someone convinces me otherwise, I'm declaring this trip a bust. :(

I actually have this weekend off, but not friday.

I would have loved to run this, but I am not prepared for this run yet. We should run it this fall. It would be fun to go down, set up a base camp and just play around for a few days.
