This is my buggy thread, not Tacoma's man crush thread;)

Shut yer suck, Destro! It's whatever thread the adults say it is, dig? DIG. :bryson:

Took off the tall truck intake today and threw on the new corvette ls1 manifold. I need to do soemthing with the head/steam tubes, and maybe move the idler and water pump outlet. If not I can run it backwards and just do the steam tubes, but would have to move the oil pressure sender. I think I will gain 10 pounds of torque with just the lesser amount of wind resistance.;)

I might be wrong but I think someone is making like, braided stainless hoses for similar swaps. I've been trying to kind of keep an eye on LS stuff, but I'm not that well-versed in it. :D

I will have to check into that. I think If I got a corvette steam tube or camaro ones they should clear the intake. You can bend them, but one of mine had a nice crack in it so we will see.

Couple of questions. Where did you pick up the LS intake manifold?

Can you run the throttle body off the truck manifold on the LS manifold?

Are the steam lines something new with the new manifold?

You can run all the parts from the truck manifold on the car ls1 one, I don't have the fuel rails moved over yet. I got it off ebay, for about 100.00 . The steam lines are these metal lines that run underneath the manifold between the heads. They are on all of the gen 3 motors I guess. Ours are just made to go around and underneath the truck manifold not the car one. SO they hit in a couple places and some tweaking is involved of about an inch here and there and they get pushed down for clearence. One of my fittings has a nice little crack, so I am looking into just getting a car steam line set to see if they all clear without moding. The only thing else I'm going to look into is to get a car ls1 fuel rail crossover pipe. The one for the truck works but sticks up as high as the truck manifold.

Are you planning to relocate your alternator?

Also, do you know if this type of manifold will work with drive by wire setups?

No on the alternator, it sits about 3 inches lower then the truck intake and my shock support sits higher anyway. As far as what manifold works on yours. Allt he manifolds are swapable from my understanding. LS1, LS2, LS6 etc. Your throttle is just different thats all. I just ordered up the bolts for the intake manifold and my new camaro steam tube assembly. They said I should see them friday. The steam tube was 35 bucks my cost

Very cool!
I'll keep my eyes peeled for a manifold.
Thanks

Does that include the injectors too?

Yep, I'm using the truck injectors. The only issue is the crossover between the 2 rails is about 6 inches tall to go over the truck intake. I'm hoping a brake line bender will take care of that. When I called the dealer they said the crossover ony comes with the rail:rolleyes: If all goes to plan I should have it all by this friday except the idler pulley which i can do later or run the intake backwards and move the oil pressure sender. That will move the intake tube to the dash area and keep it nice and clean.

Oh yeah and I ordered my dual ended PSC kit through Mike @ summit machine today:greg: I even called and talked to lance at psc with some questions, very good customer service with my questions and very down to earth. Just told it to me straight;)

This is what I'm thinking of doing... It would clean things up, and give me more clearance where I need it. :D I'll be watching your build thread for more details.

Thanks for all the great info!!!

Well after screwing with the intake this weekend. There were some things and info on the internet that were sort of vague so I will try to help some of you guys here. The LS1 intake bolts right up. But the steam tubes are in the way. You can get the ones from the camaros which bypass the intake for clearence. I ended up using the camaro one on the rear which has a t then cutting up the existing ones and flaring them and using small coolant lines to crossover them. They say you can be ok with just running the front ports, then block off the back. But I figured running the 4 like stock would be better. Apparently, the steam tubes are there to prevent hot spots in the head and equalize pressure.

The next problem was with the injecters and rail. They fit in no probelm but they won't bolt up to the intake manifold to hold them down. You would need the stock camaro or corvette etc rails and injectors which usually aren't all that cheap. Their are some guys that just make a bracket adapter which is when I plan to do. Not super clean like stock, but hardly noticable. If you use the camaro stuff, you will need to switch out the injector plugs, I understand they are about 40-50 bucks total. The only other probelm I could figure is the camaro rails are returnless also so I'm not sure if the computer needs to be reprogrammed for ls1 rails instead of my lq4 rails. Another reason the I'm sticking with the stock stuff. The only downside to this is the crossover tube between the rails still sticks up like an eyesore. I have the clearence I needed, but It could be a good 4 inches lower I f I could figure that out. All the LS1 rails are built in not removable like the truck series. I have looked all over for adapter and couplers, or even bending the one I got. But I don't want to ruin a working deal, at least not yet;)

So like i said I mounted mine backwards and the only clearence issues is the oil pressure sending unit. I don't think I'm going to use the big bulky unit anyways. I tried everywhere online to find a m16-1.5- 45 degree fitting with no luck not even summit racing. This is all you would need to make the stock one work, or even a 90 degree. I think the stock one is a light anyways since its a one 1 wire unit.
Plus my modded harness does not have a oil pressure plug anyways. They do make a npt converted fitting to m16 1.5 thoug for a backup.

I'd imagine you could have a cross over tube made, maybe by EVCO or someone. I know there are places that will fabricate an A/C line. I could be wrong, I was once before.

All this information is great, and I would like to change my intake one day, but after seeing what you're going through, I think I'll run my truck intake for now. My computer has already been flashed and set up and the chassis was built to clear it.

Yeah bart its going ok. I could just run it with the tube the way it is no problem. I'm planningto run it by evco or hose and rubber today to see what they think. They have made a/c lines for us before. As far as eta not really. I got a little stressed over the stupid intake hassle, but now I'm back on track. Bought a battery yesterday:D. Decided to use John for the drive lines just have to get the money together after I pay for the steering from summit

John who for the driveline? I need a two piece for the front and want the stainless steel carrier. Any recommendations there? I'd prefer going with someone familiar with a two piece set up. Thinking about high angle, but don't know if I want to pony up the $$.
