The crossmember for the rear suspension is built and ready to go. I've started to set up the links. The lower mounts on the axle are there. I will box them later. Disk brakes are ready to go too.

Well, it has a functional 4 link. Wheelbase right now is about 106", but I haven't touched the front end yet. I imagine I will push the front axle forward a couple inches. The upper control arm mounts on the frame were a real adventure. I cycled the suspension through it's travel a little at a time, trimming away the floor under the rear seat where the upper control arms hit. The total travel at the end of the axle shafts is 24", which is far more than the 14" coilovers will allow, so I shouldn't have any problems with clearance. There is a lot of finish work left to do, the tabs are all just tacked, the control arms are just mock-up, etc. but at least the basics are all done. I also picked up an AW4, and some tube for bumpers and a cage.

You can reuse that rear axle later too---you'd just need to add 35 spline shafts and an appropriately matching locker. And a truss, which you may or may not already be adding.

Nice wheelbase and nice project. I'd ask that you quit bagging on the XJ, but I know its just your nature. :cody: Kind of like ARBs. Keep the pics coming.

Okay, total investment into the project so far is $4927.40. This includes every purchase including nuts/bolts, valve stems, all the way up to the winch and coilovers. I have purchased pretty much all the parts I need. There are a few small things I will still need, like front hubs and coilover springs for the front suspension. I already know where to get the springs used for cheap. Some of the major parts that are included in this total are:

XJ purchase price :D
New automatic Transmission
New 35" tires
New beadlock wheels
New 14" Sway-A-Way coilover shocks
Used Dana 44 front axle
New 4.88 gears, install kit, and locker for front axle
Used Ford 9" rear axle
Used Detroit locker for rear axle
New 4.86 gears and install kit for rear axle
New Warn M8000 winch
New suspension joints, jam nuts, weld-in threaded inserts, threaded rod, etc..
5 sticks 1.75"x.120 DOM tube for bumpers and cage
1 stick 2"x.250 wall DOM tube for lower suspension links
All new brake parts for the front 44, and all new brakes parts for disk conversion on rear 9"
Used Ford RC front Dana 60 for future upgrade, or use on another project

As the build progressed I have made some decisions for quality over price. I will end up with a much better final product and I think it will still be extremely inexpensive for what it is. I have not yet started selling parts to pay down this amount. I have a lot of stuff to sell, so I think I can make quite a dent in it. :)

hey Monkey I have a brand new set of Warm Premium hubs still in the box.Was looking to get 80 bucks for them.

How does Warn's warranty work? I know these have a lifetime warranty, but do I need a receipt from a retailer for the warranty? How do I claim the warranty? $80 bucks is about what they sell for new.

I just don't want to pay new price and not get the warranty because I don't have a receipt from a retailer.

As long as the store carries them you can hand them the pieces and get another one right there. Its the only hub I've run for this very reason. These were my spares and I picked them up because they were there.I can even throw in what parts I have from a rebuild kit. I got it just to have some extra screws, though its missing a few parts at this point since the bag opened

UPS visited today. :D

I was pleasantly surprised to see these have several improvements over the last set of Sway-A-Way coilovers I bought several years ago.
