I think what's misleading about those hospital numbers, is that the urban hospitals are at or near capacity, and the rural hospitals are not so bad.
I agree, we need to have a better approach to keeping 65+ people protected. Maybe we winter them all on Antelope Island or something? But really, anyone in/out of a care facility needs a rapid test. We need to subsidize grocery/meal delivery fees for them too. I don't know the answer, but it seems logical that we should be spending money protecting those most at risk and stop spending money on daily testing students.
The problem with that, and I believe why minorities and lower income families are disproportionately impacted, is that the elderly live with the rest of the family for cultural or financial reasons, so those situations make it difficult to really isolate the more suspect able.

Damnit. The lead car was far over the max weight. Like 5 lbs.
We want to do a "unlimited class" but need to get some direction from the owner of the track. I don't want people showing up with like model rocket engines and lead cars if it's going to destroy his track. So, what I mean is, I want people showing up with those, but I don't want to pay for his track if it is destroyed by innovation.

Here's my current problem with covid:
People are screaming from the rooftops that we aren't wearing masks, but if we do covid will go away, like it's the end all. People are screaming from the rooftops that we need to shut the schools down to stop the spread.
I don't know of a school that is not 100% mask wearing. So my conclusion is either masks aren't as effective as stated, or going to school isn't the issue.

This is my take as well. This is not something we can ELIMINATE. It's here and will be here forever. We can try to stave off exposure but we'll all be exposed and our bodies will deal with it, or we'll get sick.

This morning I went to Chevron in Kaysville and McDonalds had a bunch of high school kids in there. They were setting 8 to a table on a table with enough room for 6 to sit. When I was in school, we never sat 6 at a table because that's just not what us bad asses did back then. They say these kids are asymptomatic and carry it without knowing. My daughter had it and thought she had fall hay fever. Its just like kids in daycare or primary, one gets sick, then they transmit it.
I do know of a kid that did get it and the mother called the school. They told her to keep him home for 2 weeks and the mother asked what she had to fill out or a number to call and they old her not to worry about it and to keep him home. They didn't even ask for his name. I don't think they want to have the real numbers to close the schools.

There is no way that they didn't get the kids name because they would have to transition him to online learning for the next two weeks. There is no form or number for the parents to call, they inform the school and they take care of the rest. At least that's how it works in Granite and Jordan District. So unless the kid goes to some wacky charter or private school, there is no way that the school just said, "Just keep him home. We don't want to know anything about him." Additionally, wouldn't the teacher notice that Timmy was missing school?

This is kind of my point. They weren't wearing masks because they were eating. That's a side point and I don't think it matters anyways. Kids will be kids and get together no matter what. Some parents will be able to control it. Most wont for whatever reason. BUT this has been going on since March. It has nothing to do with school starting. So the recent jump in cases can't be related to school. So keep the kids in school and learn them so they'll be able to handle the situation when they're the adults! My kids tell me all the time the education is suffering being at home, never mind their social lives...

I know the VA hospital has basically been on stand by since the whole thing began. Its almost impossible to get any care for VA members because they are postured for a surge. They are farming out all care to local providers or doing call in appointments. I'd wager that there are enough beds in that facility alone to cover the "shortage"

So here in Western CO, our school district (Mesa County) is insisting that face to face learning MUST continue for the good of the kids. We don't have kids ourselves, but my wife is a middle school librarian. Now Corona is blowing up and Mesa County is no exception... but school must go on! 
Teachers at my wife's school are getting sick, passing it onto others and then going into quarantine. Catherine had to go into quarantine on Thursday and get tested, because she was around a coworker who tested positive.... and another teacher at a nearby school is in the hospital, fighting for his life. It's getting stupid and the stupidity shows no signs of slowing down. Kids have gotten sick, but it doesn't effect them nearly as bad as the older staff members. Meanwhile, we better keep the schools open.... who cares about the health of the teachers!
And since Catherine went into quarantine and was pending testing, I had to quarantine from work as well. If I don't work, I don't get paid. Fortunately her test results came back negative, but I've missed 5 days of work. Most of the guys in my work group are older guys, some with health problems. I'd HATE to pass Corona on to a guy that might not be able to survive it... all because the school district needs to keep teaching face to face.

My kids school just sent an email to all students that they are quarantined, guess it wasn't supposed to go to all students so they sent an oops disregard email.

I don't get paid when I don't work as well, so I understand, but teacher health is one part of the equation, a big part, but there are many other important factors at play. My wife is currently home with China Virus, not at work at the school either, our family is quarantined. We are all going to get this if we live our lives.

This is such a hard thing to pick sides on. Teachers should be safe.. no doubt. But on the other hand, the rate of children not doing their 'home schooling' work was extremely high, like over 90%. Parents aren't stepping up to help their children. Also, after the last closure of schools, it was very obvious that my children were becoming depressed without the ability to socialize.
