I just got back from weighing the truck

These weights are the truck unloaded with a full tank of gas but with me inside

Total Weight 8980#
Front axle 3980#
Rear axle 5000#

Front axle capacity is 5600# leaving me with 1620#
Rear axle capacity is 11000# leaving me with 6000#

Total GVWR for the truck is 15000# so I am well within my limits. I still need to get out and weigh it with the buggy on it so I know how much weight It takes off the front and transfers to the rear.

Cool, we figured the front at 3829 and the rear at 3068 with the bed around 1000 lbs, centered a few inches behind the rear axle. So, the front is about the same and the rear is a bit heavier. The added steel at the back probably lightened up the front a little, not a lot.

It looks like if my other math was correct on the original weights the bed with my added contraption must weigh closer to 1800#.

Too me it does not look like it weighs that much but I bet the extension I built weighs close to 300# by itself.

Did you read my first sentence in my last post

and I do keep looking at that thread as I hit 250 the other day for the first time in my life

Heh heh, I read this part for sure: "but with me inside"

ya, I need to start thinking about that other post, I've been snacking way too much. I'm starting to go heavier at the gym again, but I don't think those bigger numbers on the scale lately are muscle. I made the mistake of doing an ATG w/315 the other day, showing off, not warmed up, and my knees have been paying for it for 5-6 weeks now. Sucks to get old.

Cool, let us know when you weigh it with the buggy on it.

(go Jazz)

Well I had to move around some trailers today to make room for another heap so I snapped a quick pic of the truck with the trailer. Kinda crappy pic since it was late but I like how it sits

Well I finally hit the scales today

Total truck weight empty with full tank of gas 8750#
Total truck weight with Buggy 12520#
Buggy weight 3770# (lighter then I expected)

Front axle unloaded 3880#
Front axle Loaded 3660#

So the buggy is lifting the front by 220#

Rear axle unloaded 4870#
Rear axle loaded 8860#

So by the time I load gear and me in the truck I should be adding the 220# + back to the front. So if I watch my tongue weight I should be fine towing as well.

Got to see it in action today, including watching it on the freeway.... the truck and buggy ride great, only thing it needs is some new shocks on the front... Well done Steve :)

So, how's this working out Steve? I've been thinking of doing this for years, but your truck is driving me nuts now. (talked to my insurance guy today)

Steve came to Fordyce with me. The truck cruised perfect and got better gas mileage than my Cummins pulling a trailer!

There is no other way to go if you have a smaller rig. You should do it!!!

Someday Im going to buy a BIG flatbed truck...like an old lumber truck or tow truck to haul the Scout around on. That way I can pull a camp trailer behind me and be set!!
