Truck is working out great. Now I want a newer one but cant justify the money for something used so little. I have been getting around 12 MPG with just the buggy and 9-11 depending on what trailer I am hauling.

Steve came to Fordyce with me. The truck cruised perfect and got better gas mileage than my Cummins pulling a trailer!

There is no other way to go if you have a smaller rig. You should do it!!!

Someday Im going to buy a BIG flatbed truck...like an old lumber truck or tow truck to haul the Scout around on. That way I can pull a camp trailer behind me and be set!!

Thats exactly where im at. For the price I think a 5-10k kenworth would be nice!

Obviously heavily influenced by Bucking Bronco, I got some work done on the new hauler this weekend. I don't think I would have dared do this without this build thread

Just a few small things left to do; d-rings, a little clean up, paint, etc. It can be removed in about 10 minutes, and I do plan to take it on and off in order to park in the garage. Front lifted 0.5", rear sagged 2.5", truck came with airbags.

How does the extension part remove? Can you put hinges at the top, so it can just fold over on the back of the bed for storage? (just thinking of quickness for putting it away when you're tired after a trip, and it's raining)

Thanks guys, I'm really hoping this will solve the raging toy hauler dilemma with a full size rock crawler.

Nice! Do you have a build thread or just a teaser pic? Did you already have that Truck or buy it for the project?

No, there won't be a build thread. I did it all this weekend and really didn't take any progress pictures. We bought the truck specifically for this purpose. We had a lifted 3/4 ton duramax that we used as a tow rig, and will now be selling.

It bolts to the existing flatbed, and slides into the 3 hitches that already existed, with hitch pins. I considered building hinges, but in the end I didn't trust any available hinge on the market (or one that I built) to support the lateral force that will exist when towing a small bumper pull trailer.

Looks like a lot of weight on that rear axle. I think I would be a little worried about it, then to put more weight with a trailer behind.

It is, and I am. Based on my calculations, we're still within oem rating. We don't even begin to come close to the legal limit. We already have airbags on it also.

Steve, have you ever weighed your buggy? Curious how much that F450 is hauling :D

How are you attaching your rack to the truck? LOVE it!!

Yeah my Buggy weighed in at around 3800# I think the weight is in this thread. Im right around 15000# without the trailer. This 450 has a Dana 110 Instead of the Dana 80 as well.

Page 5 has all the weights of the old hauler and buggy

It is attached to the frame with Binders and bolted into the Receiver hitch

So you've already used it and it looks great. How does the truck handle with that much weight up high?

Don't even know it's there except in a round about lol. The first time I took it out I went through a round about near my house. You could feel it lean but not bad. I went to Idaho with the truck and trailer and it was great. It feels very similar to having a camper on a truck.
