Even though they seem to be out of line in a number of places in my opinion, I am thinking that the only thing you can complain about is the comment to your boss. I hope when you report it something happens, at least a reprimand.

Agreed, and that's all that really bothered me about the whole thing.

I remember back when I took the safety inspection class to get certified, they told us to write down a note on the inspection if an obviously lifted vehicle came in for inspection with stock size tires. They told us this was for CYA purposes so we wouldn't lose our licenses if the vehicle got pulled over for tire issues and was ticketed. UHP is a big PITA when it comes to equipment violations and they like to go after the inspectors too. It is not uncommon for someone to get an equipment violation ticket and the safety inspector to get fined too.

I didn't mind being a nit picky dick to customers about that stuff when I did their inspections, but it sucks when your brother in law wants his truck passed. I remember saying stuff like: "If you get pulled over, that huge crack in the windshield happened five minutes ago.

No more worries though. My safety inspection license expires in 19 days:D

I have friends at a well known tire place that had a UHP dummy car come in. The car had 11 things wrong with it, they found them all and wrote up 10 of the 11 but forgot to mention the leaking power steering pump. The shop was fined and their license was suspended for 6 months. The UHP are real dicks when it comes to inspections.

Sorry if there are any (UHP) on this list, but I think the inspection traps are a joke. Thank you for every other thing you do though.

Hate seeing this turn in to a general rag on safety inspections.

When I lived on Colorado, I saw vehicles (not just trail rigs) with problems that scared me to be around.

Safety inspections do serve a purpose and although violations need to be handled professionally (unfortunately we know that is not always the case), inspectors need to be held accountable as well.

I agree, that's BS...

After over 20 years in Law Enforcement....there is one thing I have picked up along the way....

Cops suck.....there are very few that do their job correctly. Most wear their ego on their badge.....without their badge they are fragile weak men.

Of course this is only my opinion. Your mileage may vary....

stopped by the store and picked up some sweet-@ss reflector tape, license plate and reverse lights. I also got the name of another place to take it to.

My plan is to make it legal, get it passed, registered and park it for a while. If officer cluck cluck immediately shows up to re-inspect again, I'll be forced to tell him "gosh officer, I just dont know where the jeep is. It's not mine you know. You may have to drive around and look for it".

Better get started. it's a big city

dude, you have no idea:greg:

 We'll have to swap stories some time... my '71 SS Camaro bought me plenty of trouble. Suspended license, high-risk insurance, impound threats and exhibition of speed tickets, etc. Like is rough when you're 18 & have a built muscle car. :D

I did that same kind of crap with a '68 Skylark. TOTAL pile of shite, but it had a 455 under the hood (and a 430, and another 455, and another 455 and then I got married).

My Camaro also looked like hell.... but it went like hell too. ;)

Perhaps we should start a thread about our 'youthful' experiences...
