Decision time! need advice..

EGR?

I want to remove it all, just to know I am safe.

However, I've been told that buying the upgraded cooler gets rid of the issues. I am concerned about the ability to register it, and potential resale if ever needed. Also worried about being caught without an EGR..

However, the LAST thing I want to do is deal with a bad EGR in the future.

Is the cooler upgrade sufficient?
Is the risk still too great to keep it?

Without EGR it is not legal to be registered in Davis County. Per Davis County, other county's will be following their lead.

If the EGR is deleted and the computer is tuned to not throw a CEL the only way it would fail is by a visual inspection. How certain are you that your inspector is doing a thorough under the hood inspection or even knows what the EGR looks like and where it is supposed to be?

Things to think about.

Well, there's only one inspection station in Davis county. I'd not risk it (thus why I've got a V10)

I know it can be tricked to not set off the CEL.

Resale is probably my least concern, as I intend to keep it forever, but things can change.

Reliability is #1. Is the upgraded cooler sufficient, or does it all need to just go away?

Totally Awesome
I upgraded my cooler. I blew, so I got to do the whole job again.

DO NOT BUY THE CHINESE CRAP ON EBAY!!!!! Buy all the parts from F*rd for the oil cooler upgrade. It won't blow up again. I don't have the EGR cooler or Catalytic converter. Someone hollowed my converter out at some point. I deleted the EGR cooler. So I don't have anymore issues other than some Stiction. I dump a can of Seafoam in the crankcase every oil change and it cleans it up again.

I upgraded to a sinister diesel on my last 6.0. I'm going to delete it on this truck. Way cooler oil and coolant Temps are my biggest reason for delete vs upgrade.

GLP diesel in Ogden has been working on the truck. He sent me these photos the other day.

I assume that the missing valve is a bad sign ;)

This is not correct at least not on an 2008 6.4. You can fix the cel with a tuner but the emission machine will still see that it's not there when it does its test.

Some advice for any 6.0 owners. I installed a coolant filter and flushed the coolant on my current 06 about 5k miles ago knowing that it needed an oil cooler soon and I wanted the cooling system as clean as possible for to extend the life of the new oil cooler. Yesterday I changed the filter and cut the old one open. This is what was in the filter.

That is crazy! Do any other engines benefit from a coolant filter? I've never heard of anyone running one except on a powerstroke.
I don't know if it's a big deal with other engines. The oil cooler on the 6.0 has very small coolant passages that are easily plugged with sand or silicate from the coolant. Once they plug it reduces coolant flow to the egr cooler, then the egr cooler ruptures and dumps coolant into the intake.
This is the kit I bought, not too expensive.
