I started out with a bunch of fullsize stuff, culminating in the Blazer of DOOM!!! which was just sold. Standard build, 60/14bolt, nothing special. Any future monies spent on this capable but superwide, heavy pig seemed to me a waste, so I sold it, in favor of a similarly equipped Suburban, which I feel will better serve the purpose of wheeling it to the limit of the vehicle's size, while carrying my family and a bunch of stuff. Kind of a trail/expo rig for camping and trail use.
However, the flipside of that is that I wished I could fit on harder trails and have less body, so I thought of something. A "cheap" buggy build. And simple too. I will be using a beater FJ40 tub, w/GM guts. I have a set of axles and tires, and some drivetrain (needs refreshing but won't cost much, maybe a grand total?). So the plan is this at the moment: beater 40 buggy, with tube fenders and sliders, caged, kept as low and cheap/simple as I can managed. Bartered parts, junkyard stuff, etc. This will necessarily be kind of a throwback rig...
So the current issue, since the platform and drivetrain is set, is this: would you run long leaf springs (like 56/63's), or link it and run coils-- not coilOVERS, but old school coils and schocks?
if this winter stays mild like this I may try to bash this out before EJS, and DEFINITELY before OSRC.
What say ye?
