Greg, this would turn your 650 into a bike capable of riding some trails you wouldn't attempt otherwise. You can not imagine how easy it makes the trail. They make these clutchs for everything from minis to Harleys. Their offices are in Denver unlike Australia liks some think. If I had your 650, there is not doubt it would have a RevLoc Dyna Ring. Its the best $392 with shipping that I ever spent on my WR.

Good writeup! One of the best I have seen. Sorry for bailing out on you but it sounds like I'm glad I did. The ATK is no WR and I'm not a technical trail lover even on a smaller bike (although that does make it more manageable). We will have to get you me and Caleb together for a HITR reunion ride somewhere around here. Next week?

I'd think about it, but the way I have my DR650 built there is much more to the bike that will keep me out of places that would require such a thing. With my latest tire swap, the 8 gallon tank and the sheer size of the bike, the DR is much more an Adventure bike than a dual sport.

All told, I would really like a 2nd bike like a WR250/450F for technical trail riding. I could see how a RevLoc could transform a good dual sport to a machine capable of very technical riding. If that happens, I'd really look in to an auto clutch.

Great writeup! If only I could get one for the ATK :( Between the auto clutches and steering dampers you can work magic on the trail :greg:

I'm in...as long as those pesky meetings don't get in the way :D

Since I "bailed" on Russ (really I had a meeting and wasn't able to get away from work until after 6 :p), my buddy and I ran out to Soldiers Pass/Cedar Valley area and ran some awesome single track out there. It was only 12 miles long but it was some of the funnest riding I've done in a long time.

:D You just named my two top purchases that are needed...ofcourse I think the auto clutch will come first, especially after hearing the feedback from Russ (who I trust and I know he knows what he's talking about when it comes to bikes...there are other things you need to watch him on though  )

I say we do Bountiful, Corbin is in NSL and you're coming from S Salt Lake. What time works for you? I am trying to change my rear tire, got it off okay but it is kicking my butt getting it on. Its a little stiffer because its a Dunlop DOT approved tire.

Any time works for me, I'll be taking off early regardless. Corbin, what works for you? Are you putting a D606 on?

It is a 606. Is this a good tire? Its kicking my butt. Its the two beadlocks that is making it hard. I tried calling Walmart and CostCo to see if they did motorcycle tires but they said they didn't. Who else is open on Sunday?

I've heard great things about the 606, I believe that's tire Greg has been running on his 650. I have heard that it really shines as a DS tire.

As for a place open today, cycle gear in sandy is, I believe till 6 or 7.

Yep, the 606 is about the best balance you can get with a DOT knobby. I don't like the front 606 on my DR650, it tends to wash out pretty easy, so I was pairing the 606 up with a Pirelli MT21. It was a great combo for knobby, DOT legal tires. The front 606 might do better on a lighter dual sport, but I'm not sure about that.

We could hit the single track above Pineview Resevoir if you don't care about getting back too late. Its a fun ride, you get on it at the dam and head up and across the peak over Ogden and end up at the top of N. Ogden Pass. At that point we can turn around and go back or head back through Liberty back to the trucks.

We could do Farmington Canyon or Bountiful. I really don't care where we go.

Greg, what air pressure do you normally run off road on the 606? What a pain to get this one on. Its a stiff tire but I finally was able to get it on the rim and never pinched my tube :) I forgot why you take it to the motorcycle shop to have them do this. I was going to go to Harbour Freight and buy their motorcycle tire machine for $50 but thought it would be easy enough but a stiff tire and two tire locks made it a handful. I actually had to use a couple of clamp on the tire to keep it in the middle of the rim and off the sides.

No kidding about the tire! I hate having 2 rimlocks. On my 480 I would wear out a tire before I got a flat or spun the tire so I took one of them out. :D Since tires on the ATK last about 2 years I figured I would leave it in but man it sucked to get the new one on.

I can get off early no problem so any time after 1:00 or so is good for me. Wherever we go is fine with me. Russ, you know the area the best. I have been up farmington once or twice and tuttle loop once. tuttle loop is probably a bit more technical than I like. The quads really tear that trail up and all the turns + loose rocks + steepness make for not so much fun IMO. On that note, singletrack is fine, or fire roads, or anything in between.

Caleb, is your new bike street legal?
