Fat Tony came over on Saturday and helped me do my timing belt and water pump. I've never done a timing belt before, but it wasn't bad at all. We found that the t-beld had been replaced around 2010, so it probably wasn't due yet, but it gives me peace of mind to swap the belts, hoses, and seals in that area. However, we also found that when the PO replaced the timing belt, the exhaust camshaft was advanced one tooth. So I'm glad we went in to replace it anyway.
When we buttoned it all up, it wouldn't start. It cranked just fine, but it wouldn't fire up. After some googling, we realized we'd put the crank angle sensor wheel on backwards, and the indexing tabs weren't aligned with the CAS. 10 minutes later, we had it flipped around and it fired right up. It runs like a champ, revs quicker than before, and is super smooth all the way to 7500 rpm. Now I'm ready for some worry-free road trips.
It's been a few months since I've driven this, and I forgot just how much fun driving can be. I love this little thing.
