There I was minding my own business and what evil thought pops into my mind?

"Man it sure would be easy to drop a TBI four five four in place of your treefidy when you have that thing torn down for the new other junk".... "almost like no extra work at all...."

Is this another one of your movie quotes?

The smell does take you back. And if you're me, you'll suddenly start smelling 'pane and nothing but like 5hrs after you get home.

The only thing I can think of that would be better than a TBI 454 is maybe a MPFI 496. But I digress. I was just outside looking at both of my TBI 454's: remember, you can crunch 3 valves and not hurt anything, sometimes LOL

I am so in favor of this idea, that I can't even believe it. It's amazing.

I started off thinking a bit more power would be nice, then I thought "you know, a big block has a bit more power" and "hmmm, could prolly get a bb for a lot less than a sb rebuild" :greg:

But also keep in mind that a BB making more power also makes more heat. Will you have trouble displacing the heat? SB Chevys that are "worn out" also make a lot of heat, so maybe you have already addressed that issue. You have a TH350??? Adds another, what, 100 pounds too? Are your springs up to it? It doesn't take much work to make a SB put out more than a BB, but it does take >$ .

So, New Radiator, Fan, shroud, Exhaust, EFI, High volume fuel pump, Shift kit for the trans to handle the extra power (maybe), Hoses, plugs and wires, wiring... Sounds pretty cheap.

wow... someone who actually thinks ahead, and thinks things most of the way thru.
If everyone thougth such as this, I doubt many of us would have the vehicles that we currently do.
I can think of many projects in the past that I likley never would have attempted had I thought them through.
I always favored the "Hey... that should work, and not be too hard/expensive" method. This is often followed with many trips to the parts store, and a little bit of pants soiling when the credit card statement arrives.

I'm fine on temp atm, and when I built that new front end it was designed so it would be real easy to put in a 4 core. I've got a 700r4, but if I go bb I'll put in a 400. I already have to do a rebuild on the trans and the 400 would be cheaper anyway (although I do already have the manual valve body for the r4). I'll be fine with the weight.
This sb isn't really tired, it's just a mild mannered (mostly stock) sb

I have a 4 core sitting around, my exhaust sucks, I have a good enough fuel pump, already have to rebuild the trans, treefiddy needs a tune up/new hoses as it is :D
The best way to buy motors is with a smashed up truck around them, so that will take care of the few odds and ends....

Beadlocks will most likely be in a few weeks, and I'm going to go Warn premiums when I go 35spl
