the problem i see is keeping your traction while you winch the truck.

does the truck have a reciever? use a reciever mount winch to pull the ass end up onto the road. while someone on the front side helps stabalize with a winch and snatch block.

Agreed...

... Perhaps use a strap tied to a tree (with tension on it) on the back of the winching vehicle, so the winching vehicle doesn't get pulled while winching.

By the looks of things I missed an exciting time on the hill for an exciting football game. I have an 8,000lb warn on the front of my TJ and I'm game to get in the line to pull him out. The problem is traction and the weight or lack there of my TJ but you can tie the tail ends together of two vehicles and hook the front of the last one to a tree and pull as well. The receiver hitch is a great idea. I am game, I can bring a chainsaw and shovels. I don't have a snatch block but it would give me an excuse to go get a couple. Its going to have to come out before Sunday because another snow storm is on its way.

Medsker, is that your JK? Nice, you must have a good wife to let you have that. Give her a hug and condolences from all of us here. Its tuff to lose grandma.

You all realize the fun will be over once its out. Maybe someone else should try it later next week or just come up Farmington Canyon after the next snow storm, there are always highschool kids getting stuck up there.

Some good ideas everyone, we thought of the receiver hitch idea up there and Tyson is looking for one but if not maybe we can borrow WHYJAE's and use it and then get a winch hooked up to the front and pull it up. I was thinking last night if we can get some 3' lengths of rebar...maybe 5-10 of them we could pound them into the ground where I slid off and then lay a log along side of them to prevent slide offs there so we didn't have to winch everyone across that area. I think Kurt has a 12,000 lb winch on his landcruiser but I think he is in Sema this week. Do you guys want to try again on Sunday or are we thinking later on in the week (I would prefer not on Sunday because of religious beliefs but this may qualify as the ox is in the miar type of thing). We definitley need a chainsaw but Tyson said his dad had one he could bring...although a backup might not be a bad idea.

I can help on Sunday if you go. I don't have a rig (unless I chain up all fours on the F350) but I have extra winch cable, snatch blocks, straps, chainsaw, tire chains etc. maybe I'll just ride the wheeler up with a camera for fun:)

I have to share something related to this thread, but not at all useful.
I had this thread minimized in firefox, and was working on some real work stuff when my boss came over to my desk to chat. The project that I was finishing was for him, so he leaned in to take a peek, and noticed the firefox in the taskbar, only showing the words "Stuck truck in Butt..."
After he stopped laughing, I showed him the rest of the title, and the stuck pics... but it was a little funny for a minute there.

I wouldn't mind going today but I guess I would like to hear from Tyson, the owner of the truck. I told him that I would post up on here what happened and then ask when everyone was available and then for him to get on and see what's happening. He hasn't called me and hasn't got on here and I hesitate organizing something without his input (both because he may not be available and because it's his truck and he should do the work).

Stuck or unstuck???

Nobody has heard from the owner! He needs to step up, plan a date & time to get this done and communicate here as to what the plan is, then make sure enough people can make it. Otherwise it's not going to get done. If he is just waiting on a group of volunteers to run up on the mountain and get him out of this mess, he's wrong. One effort has already been made, if he's not going to take the time to organize this on here, then IMO he may be better off paying for a wrecker to get him off the mountain. Time is of the essence, unless he's alright with getting it next summer.

List your availability.

Tyson called me today and I think is shooting for this weekend (15th/16th). The earlier the better for me. Need to be back in town by around 5pm ish on Sunday if it ends up that day.

This will be Tyson's call since it is his deal. We need to see how many people, vehicles, straps, snatch blocks, winches, rebar(?) we can get together on Sat or Sun morning to go do this. I can do it either morning and have 1 snatch block, a 20ft strap, a 8ft strap, 8 ft chain, 2 D rings (and 4 more on my bumpers) and a 9000lb winch on my XJ.

If you are down to go hit this Sat or Sun morning, please list day availability and what recovery equipment you have and can bring, and make sure Tyson has your number or a way to book you by Friday night. We can do this!! Unless there is a huge storm this week.:D

Tyson, this is all up to you to organize. Let anyone that has and will pipe up know by Friday night where and what time you want to make this happen and we'll give it a shot. If we have 5-10 vehicles with recovery equipment, I can't see us failing. Break out the legal pad and get us together.

PS - does the truck run and move OK, or are we competing with dead weight?
