I'd be willing to help, and I am available at anytime this week/weekend. This would be a first for me but I would like to get more involved in these kind of efforts.

I have a 9500 lb. winch, 6 ft. tree saver/strap, 20' tow strap, plenty of d-rings including a reciever hitch shackle bracket w/d-ring. I don't have a snatch block (yet) but I have been meaning to get one. Oh, and jumper cables...

I'm a maybe for Saturday (already told my dad I'd go snowmobiling with him if he goes). I can go Sunday. Other than the strap and chains I left up there I have a couple more chains, couple of D-rings, winch, snatch block, two 3' lengths of re-bar and various straps that I mainly use for tree savers.

His truck started right up last time we went up but who knows when its been sitting another week.

Does anyone know how much new snow they got up on top?

Don't forget the chain saw. If you go Saturday morning I'll wave at you from the plane I'm in. Good luck, looks like the weather is with you this weekend.

This could be interesting. Haven't seen much of the tops of the mountains over there the last couple of days. Hate to say it, but the window of opportunity may have closed.

Good luck!

I am STILL game. I have a winch, lockers, shovels, chainsaw, straps, d-rings, etc and mad shovel skills. Post a time and lets do it. If we have enough people we can just go up and haul it out on our backs.

Wow - a lot of cool people here!

We are shooting for Sunday morning, it looks like. What time and where exactly is to be announced. Lets just make sure to make the meeting spot a place we can all find easily (a gas station, junction, etc?) as I have never been up the Tooele side and am probably not the only one.

Does anyone have tire chains? When my blazer slipped of the road up payson canyon a couple of years ago, i had to chain up my pickup to get the wrecker to my blazer. We all so used a lot of Ice melt to dry out a patch for the wrecker and set a few fires to melt the snow and ice. That was an expensive weekend for me, could have bought myself a winch:sigh:

I would like to help but i tore my ACL last week and going in to get fixed this week

Y'all are the coolest folks around and I hope that someday I get the chance to meet y'all. Good luck with the recovery. I am sure that y'all will get it this next time out.

is this recovery for sure on for this weekend? where exactly is the entry point for the start for the road up? i am not familiar with this canyon but curiosity and the thrill of the sucessful recovery are peaking my interest in going along. what is the drive time off pavement to the recovery spot? during the first attempt what was the snow depth? my winch is a 12,000 lb. is it possible to go uphill of the stuck truck and using snatch blocks with two winches pull truck from front and back sideways onto road?

Your idea sounds plausible. If anyone's going, entry to the canyon is as follows:

Enter Tooele, go up Main Street, to Vine Street. Head east, keep going all the way around all the twists and turns. Continue until the road turns to dirt, then continue some more. Carry on until you reach the saddle.

From points south: Go to Lehi, head west. Go past Five Mile Pass, turn right at the blinking stop sign. Go into Tooele, down the hill to the light at Vine Street. Head east, etc. as above. :D

The only way to get a line to it is from the road it slid off of. The only way to do two lines would be to snake the second line around the first first winch vehicle (around the side by snatch blocking it to a tree so it doesn't push first vehicle off road or slide along it). I think this would be the best method and there are some good trees above the stuck truck to snatch block to to pull it up onto the road. I think we have got it the first time if it hadn't been for that stump behind it. There was 3-4 inches of snow on our first attempt. I'm guessing there is at least a foot now.

Can you stilll drive up to the truck?

I'm guessing you should be able to other than that place 150 feet from the truck where I slid off will still give people trouble. I also don't think we want head down onto the small road from the top with more than 3-4 vehicles. There is only one place to turn around and I think if we get piled up to deep down in there it might be difficult to get turned around and pointed back out. We can of course take as many as want to go to the top. The place to turn around is about 500 feet from the stuck truck so those that can't back well may want to stay on top and carpool with others. There is also a pretty steep icy hill down in there. I had to tow Scott up it and he was locked up in the rear, so I think good tires are a must and lockers preferably so we don't end up towing vehicles up that hill all day.

I also think Tyson you should call the Sheriff and make sure it's ok to make another attempt and see if they will limit how many people can go. I would hate to show up with a big group and have some or all turned away.
