Isn't there still a fence at the top of that hill that would somewhat discourage and let people know travel is expected to not be happening there? I know Utah 4x4 Club put on up early last year, maybe it got ripped down.
Anyhow...Some project ideas that may be noteworthy. I was in charge of the trail adoption last year for Utah 4x4 Club on that very trail. We got a few things accomplished and and ended up wanting to do more. I'm not 100% certain what the plans are this year as I haven't been very active there for a while...personal reasons. Great club though. Anyhow, at the end of last year we had a list of a few things we wanted to get done this year.
- Install some sort of signs around the perimeter of the lake telling people not to drive through the lake or around the East side. The trail map doesn not include a trail around the East side of the lake, and according to the FS rep I was working with last year, it shouldn't be driven on. Maybe you could get a few pressure treated posts and engrave some wood signs. Paint in traditional Forest Service colors (brown and yellow) and plant them in key locations. This could be a large project though.
- Rubber water shed barriers in the trail leading up to the lake could use some repair. A lot of these have been torn out of the road and need to be re-buried to shed water off the trail to prevent erosion damage.
- There's always a need to pull trash from the dispersed campsites, the trail, and around the perimeter of the lake.
- Build a fence. Get with the FS and Utah 4x4 Club and see what and where.
- Or just get with Utah 4x4 Club and see if there's anything you can do to help out with any plans they have. They have officially adopted the trail again this year and would have a great idea what needs done. Jodie VanZant (JoJo) is in charge of the trail this year I believe. IF not, get with Roger or GravesdiggerXJ. Those two will be able to get you in contact with the proper persons there.
Good Luck. And thanks for stepping up to make things right.
