Kudos to you! no matter if it was 1 person or 100 people, keeping the canyons clean is a big part of keeping the trails open, I admire that you stepped up to help rectify a situation (instantly) that you yourself did not create.....now ask your club to have a meeting and do a couple things to further your enjoyment of the trails we all love.
(1) Like Tacoma said: adopt some kind of stringent land-use ethics in your club's reason for existing. This is huge, it tells new members from day one that your club is not only about wheeling but helping as much as possible with land use issues, then the new members follow by example and learn from day one when they join the "lost boys" that it is a club that is involved with keeping trails open and will not allow that kind of abuse from any of the members.
(2) Push your members to join the U4 or blue ribbon or any of the many great organizations fighting to keep our public lands just that...OURS!
(3) Monthly organized trail cleanups or organize your members to part of a bigger solution and meet up with Steve's group efforts or any of the other great clubs along the front and do service projects, Its Important! The forest service loves to see huge groups show up to say "were here and willing to do what it takes"
(4) Do just what Strange cowboy did and stand up for what your fighting for, You can without conflict try to educate the ones around you...After all he said something to your group because he was fighting for what he believes in..
The list can go on forever.....keep up the good work...it helps!
