General Tech What did you work on Today?

After 14 years our pool heater started to fail. When I called the manufacturer to order parts he told me the useful estimated lifetime of these was about 10 years, and although I could replace a part and fix it, the rest of the parts would begin to fail also and recommended a new one. Luckily they still make the unit and it is pretty close to the same, although some of the plumbing was a bit different. It was my first time working with natural gas plumbing, but while I was at it I decided to add a line to go to a fire pit table in our cabana. After 3 trips to the plumbing store I was able to put everything together and was extremely happy to verify that there were no leaks.

Worked on my in laws Rhino. They had too many rodents living in it. Fired it up yesterday after fixing a dozen or so chewed up wires and cleaning bad gas from the carb.

Cleaned out a years worth of death mud. This last year had tons of aluminum ran through it.

Finally got around to painting a new tcase mount and skid @I Lean cut out for me and taught me how to weld on. Its only taken about a year or so...







Once I get my 80 back from the head rebuild, I'll install this.

I built two game camera security boxes. It's 5" square tube with some scrap .188 wall 1.75" tube for the post. 3 bags of concrete mix in the hole.

The camera goes in from the bottom and there is a plate under it they is held in place by two tabs and the padlock.

Last night I made some more progress on the stand for my DiAcro 24” finger brake.

Machined the heads down on some 1/2”-13 bolts for the leveling feet.

Tubing prepped and wiped down with acetone for welding.

Quick make-shift fixture to hold things while tacking.

One tacked together.

First full welds were on opposite sides of opposite tubes to minimize and offset any pulling after welding.

Then the inside edges were welded, again, opposites to minimize distortion.

Angle iron on top tacked then an autogenious weld along the top edge.

Both end pieces done.

Next will be to measure the proper width and get the spreader bars cut and welded in place. I think I’ll use some 1” x .095”round tubing that I have for them.

I'm interested to see how you like them. I've considered getting a set a time or five, but never have...

you can see how clean they cut without distorting the tube. One really nice feature is they don't need a pilot hole, just a divot from the included center punch. The guide pin is spring loaded and ejects the slug as soon as the cutter gets through the wall.

Ifn you was asking me I'm not 100% sure, my bros shop, I think it might be higher than that, you can get underneath the cars no problem, there's another floor above the shop.

Started on the other side... I definitely have a soft place in my heart for hole saws, they saved me tons of time and error in doing this.




Perfect fit for the new belly bash bar!


I think I'll just clean up and paint the tube this time instead of having a cover welded back on. Maybe do a removable panel at a later date.
