That cam shows its not billet so a normal cast gear should be fine.
We'll check into it more during the week, we definitely wasn't working it at all, sitting at idle, sniper was throwing other issues and then she just shut down, sniper obviously showed a total loss of RPMs. Still hopeful everything else is fine and those bits dropped into the pan.

Haven’t worked on Todd’s Jeep in a while. I finished up boxing and plating the front frame horns.

The large front crossmember was removed to make room for moving the steering box forward and up. I’ll incorporate another one while adding a winch plate.

Now I’m on to moving the front spring mounts. Todd bought $80 worth of Motobilt spring mounts, and they need to be severely modified.

So after that distributor gear failure we got the bits out of the oil pan, put the other gear back, took off the valve covers and rechecked valve lash, everything is set up right.

Then we did three more tests and data logging with three different 02's, when we got to the third one we hadn't tried yet it ran the best but still readings are not right. So we decided to go for a test on the street and get some more data logging.

Just sitting at idle the sniper shut down and displayed "no data" so then we have to pull a fuse up on the frame rail and reset some things to get it running again.

We've checked and rechecked everything multiple times from moving wiring, shielding wiring, continuity, we even verified the exhaust has no leaks. We've had nothing but issues with this sniper, well two now, first has a bad ECU. More data logs sent to Holley but I might be sending this sniper back to summit and possibly trying a sniper 2 as I should have done to begin with.

Well this day came a little sooner than I had anticipated.. titanium intake valve let me know when it had had enough.

Piston/rings and stainless valves it is. Haven’t done open heart surgery on a four stroke in a while—feels pretty good to dive in. Not looking forward to the bill though haha.

Maybe the second time in my life one of these has actually worked. I could tell I was drilling off center so I decided to give it a pull and was pleasantly surprised. Timed it just right too.
I used an extractor today too. Worked as advertised...

That bolt broke relieving my motorcycle of it's kickstand. I got it out and replaced it. I once again have a functioning kickstand!

I didn't take any pictures, but I made a resolve to get my riding lawn mower working again for the first time in several years as my kids are getting too busy to reliably mow, and I HATE yard work and mowing. Having the rider will allow me to cut my half acre in right about an hour.

The issues: dead battery, corrosion on the wiring, broken deck belt.

The battery and corrosion were easy fixes. I bought a new battery and cleaned up the wiring to get rid of the corrosion.

I bought this mower in 2006 or 2007, and had a hard time finding documentation on what belt to buy which is why it has sat for several years. I finally found the motivation to dig deep and find the right belt. After buying one I found online that was too short, I bought 6 different lengths thinking I'd find it through trial and error, but that's what led to shredding the last replacement i tried.

After 4 trips to Lowes and Home Depot, reaching the end of my patience, I went back on line and finally found it needs a 109" belt, way longer than every other 42" mower. As luck would have it, Lowes had 1 in stock.

With the new deck belt installed I mowed the yard to ensure it wouldn't shred like the last one I tried. Success! I once again have a functioning riding lawn mower!

I hate these GM heater hose connections.
1000008987.jpg
Every suburban/yukon/escalade/tahoe I or family members have ever owned has sprung leaks at least once. They aren't horrible to change, unless they are orginal and the locking connections start breaking apart, then they suck.

I went into town today and could smell coolant when I got out of the rig. Popped the hood and sure enough the one closest to the intake was leaking.

1000008988.jpg

No biggie, picked up a new connection before heading home and waited for the rig to cool off. Swapped the connection out in about 5 minutes, really surprised it went that easy. Start the truck to check everything out, now the other one is leaking. I knew I should have bought two. 🤦🏻🤬

I could probably make a whole thread just off these sniper issues we have had.
After messing with what seems like 2 bad sniper 1's, Summit was cool and are letting me swap the last one I bought for a Sniper 2.

You can see they have completely redesigned the whole thing, Sniper one left, Sniper two right. They moved injectors from the sides to front and back, moved the ECU to the side, removed the fuel pressure regulator, screen connection is different, all wiring comes out the back for a cleaner look and some other changes, you can get an adapter harness to plug the Sniper 2 into the Sniper 1 wiring.

1000006233.jpg
So we had to build a bracket and mount a fuel pressure regulator and put it on the back driver side of the intake, we also had to get some more AN fittings and hose to rebuild the lines and modify the throttle cable bracket.

Looks good again.

Now we are running, everything is reading correctly and hopefully no more issues. Have some engine noises we haven't pinned down yet, I sure hope it's nothing we have to tear into.
